The Evertale Beginner Guide covers the most important decisions new players should make when starting their adventure. Evertale combines story-driven RPG exploration, character and monster collection, equipment progression, and strategic turn-based battles. The combat system uses four active units at a time and puts significant emphasis on skill interactions rather than simply stacking characters with the highest rarity.
For beginners, the most important idea is simple: do not try to upgrade everything at once.
Evertale gives you many characters, weapons, currencies, and enhancement systems, but the resources required to develop high-level characters become increasingly expensive. Building one strong core first generally produces much faster progress than dividing resources evenly across an entire collection.
The Offline Story is one of the best places for a new account to begin.
Unlike much of Evertale's later content, the Offline Story does not consume Mana. This allows you to continue progressing without competing with events and other Mana-based activities for the same resource.
You will explore Erden, fight enemies, collect monsters and equipment, unlock additional game systems, and learn the fundamentals of combat.
Do not worry if your early roster contains mostly lower-rarity characters. The Offline Story can be progressed without owning a powerful SSR immediately, although some bosses can still require better tactics or improvements to your team.
When moving through the story, check optional paths, treasure locations, shops, and monster encounters.
Early equipment and captured monsters may eventually be replaced, but they can still give your team enough power to overcome the next story encounter without spending valuable premium resources.
The goal at this stage is not to create your permanent endgame squad. It is to unlock systems and accumulate resources while learning how battles work.
Once the relevant home systems become available, beginners should complete the Training Dojo, previously known as the Trainer Dojo.
These battles give you predetermined teams and require you to solve combat situations using the available abilities. Completing the dojo teaches mechanics while also providing useful rewards, including Soul Stones and copies of Bilidra that can be combined through Awakening.
Do not treat the Training Dojo as optional filler.
It teaches concepts that remain important much later in the game, particularly targeting, skill conditions, turn manipulation, and knowing when not to attack immediately.
One of the lessons beginners often overlook is that taking an action is not always your best move.
Evertale's combat revolves heavily around TU, or Time Units. TU affects when a character gets another opportunity to act, so a powerful ability with a high TU cost may leave that unit waiting much longer before its next turn. Speed also influences a character's initial position in the turn order.
Understanding turn order is therefore more important than simply choosing whichever attack shows the biggest damage number.
Evertale abilities frequently depend on conditions.
Some skills generate or consume Spirit. Others become stronger when enemies are poisoned, sleeping, stunned, burning, or affected by another mechanic. Certain characters want particular conditions on themselves or their teammates before their strongest abilities become available.
That means a character cannot be judged only by raw Attack and HP.
A team of individually powerful characters can perform poorly when their abilities interfere with one another.
For example, applying one status effect may interfere with another strategy, while Stun can often complement other mechanics because it primarily manipulates enemy TU. Current Evertale strategy resources continue to distinguish between archetypes such as Sleep, Burn, Stun, Poison, Stealth, and mixed compositions.
Beginners do not need to master every archetype immediately. You should, however, start reading skill descriptions carefully instead of relying entirely on Auto Battle.
Soul Stones are one of the most valuable resources on an Evertale account.
They can be used for summons and several other functions, but spending them aggressively as soon as you receive them is one of the easiest ways to slow long-term account growth.
A widely used strategy among experienced players is to build toward a 30,000 Soul Stone reserve for the Lucky Fountain and then treat that amount as a protected reserve rather than normal spending currency. This strategy remains widely recommended by the active Evertale community in 2026.
The Lucky Fountain allows players to contribute specific amounts of Soul Stones and receive more Soul Stones back.
Its highest contribution tier requires 30,000 Soul Stones, and the stated return is between 1.2× and 2× the amount contributed.
This creates one of Evertale's most important long-term resource-management strategies.
Instead of thinking:
"I have 35,000 Soul Stones, so I can spend 35,000."
Think:
"I have approximately 5,000 spendable Soul Stones above my reserve."
You do not technically have to follow this strategy, but it is particularly valuable for free-to-play and low-spending accounts because recovering a depleted Soul Stone balance can take considerable time.
New characters are one of the most exciting parts of Evertale, which makes this mistake particularly easy.
A banner appears with attractive artwork or an interesting skill kit, and a beginner immediately spends everything trying to obtain it.
That approach quickly creates a collection of partially developed characters without enough Soul Stones or upgrade materials to make them competitive.
Instead, decide what your account actually needs.
Is your main damage dealer missing support? Does your team need protection? Are your strongest characters built around Sleep, Burn, Stun, Poison, Stealth, or another interaction?
Pulling characters that reinforce an existing strategy is usually more valuable than constantly starting new strategies.
Evertale's character balance also changes as newer units are introduced, so static advice such as "always summon this one character" can become outdated. Check current character performance and team compatibility before committing large amounts of Soul Stones.
One of the biggest beginner progression mistakes is trying to level every SSR, SR, and interesting monster equally.
Evertale's enhancement systems eventually consume substantial amounts of resources.
Character development includes levels, limit breaks, Boost, Potential, Awakening-related power, equipment, mastery, and other improvements. The cost of pushing these systems higher can increase dramatically. For example, current Boost data shows escalating Boost Gem requirements at higher values, while Potential gains become progressively less resource-efficient beyond certain thresholds.
Your strongest character should therefore receive priority.
A heavily developed carry can often contribute more to progression than several moderately upgraded characters.
Choose one reliable character as the foundation of your account.
Invest your best character enhancement resources there first. Equip that character with an appropriate weapon and support it with teammates whose abilities actually complement its playstyle.
Once your primary carry reaches a meaningful level of development, start strengthening the next important member of your core team.
This approach also makes it easier to replace temporary early-game characters without feeling that you wasted large amounts of scarce materials.
SR units and story characters can absolutely help beginners progress.
That does not mean they deserve every rare resource you own.
Levels and inexpensive upgrades that help you clear content are fine. Scarce materials that become painful to replace should generally be reserved for characters that you expect to use for much longer.
This becomes especially important when you obtain your first strong SSR.
Instead of continuing to improve eight temporary units evenly, redirect your most valuable resources toward the character capable of carrying difficult content.
Weapons are another area where beginners often focus too heavily on the largest visible stat increase.
A weapon can provide significant value when its effects match the character using it.
Check weapon requirements and abilities. A technically stronger weapon may contribute less overall if its passive or activation condition does not fit your character's combat pattern.
The same principle applies to accessories.
Your equipment choices should support the role of the unit rather than simply maximizing Battalion Power.
Once Mana-based content becomes available, you need to decide where that Mana produces the most useful rewards.
Offline Story progression does not consume Mana, while Online Story battles do. Online Story includes Normal and Hard difficulties and provides rewards such as Soul Stones, accessories, and important evolution materials.
Character and weapon events can also be excellent uses of Mana.
Event stages provide event currency that can be exchanged for rewards that may include characters, weapons, accessories, and development resources.
Rather than spending Mana simply because it is available, ask what currently blocks your progress.
If an event offers resources your main character needs, prioritize those. If your roster needs materials obtainable through Online Story, work on those stages instead.
Events are important even if your team cannot clear the hardest content.
Progress as far as your account reasonably allows and collect the rewards available to you.
Event exchange shops can provide far more focused progression than randomly farming content without a goal. Some events offer SR characters, SSR weapons, accessories, and enhancement materials through their exchange systems.
A useful beginner mindset is to evaluate event rewards according to your current bottleneck.
A powerful weapon is valuable only if you can use it effectively. Character materials become more valuable when you already have a character worth developing. Mana restoration becomes valuable when an event shop contains additional resources you still need.
Do not ignore the Mercenary system.
A strong borrowed character can help your account push through difficult stages that your own team cannot yet clear efficiently. Community beginner guidance has long highlighted Mercenaries as an important bridge before a new account develops its own strong SSR carry.
Mercenaries are particularly useful for event progress.
Instead of immediately spending resources because you cannot defeat one stage, try changing your setup and borrowing a better-suited Mercenary.
This can save enhancement materials while allowing you to reach better rewards.
Joining an Alliance should be an early priority once the feature becomes available.
Alliance content provides additional progression opportunities and resources. Alliance quests, for example, can reward Alliance Experience, Alliance Coins, and enhancement-related materials.
An active Alliance also gives beginners something that is difficult to measure through raw account power: information.
Experienced players can help evaluate banners, characters, team combinations, equipment decisions, and resource investments before you make an expensive mistake.
For a long-running gacha RPG such as Evertale, that knowledge can be extremely valuable.
Two progression systems beginners will eventually encounter are Boost and Potential.
Boost increases Attack and HP and consumes Gold and Boost Gems. Current data lists a maximum Boost value of 300 for both characters and weapons, although the resource requirement increases heavily at high Boost levels.
Potential also increases Attack and HP. Characters use Unknown Fruits while weapons use Unknown Ores for Potential development. Potential can reach 100%, but the gains per material become considerably less efficient at higher percentages.
That is why blindly maximizing every stat is poor resource management.
Early progression is usually improved more by strengthening your primary characters to efficient thresholds and then improving the rest of your core team than by forcing one secondary upgrade system to its absolute maximum.
Battalion Power is useful for understanding the overall development of your account, but it should not become your only measure of team quality.
Combat mechanics still matter.
Imagine one character relies on sleeping enemies while another repeatedly applies an effect that disrupts that setup. Both characters might be individually strong, yet putting them together may make the team worse.
A well-built squad considers damage, protection, Spirit generation and consumption, status interactions, TU control, survivability, and entry order.
This becomes increasingly important as you move away from early Story Mode and into more demanding content.
The most damaging beginner mistakes usually come from resource management rather than combat difficulty:
Spending Soul Stones immediately instead of establishing a strong reserve.
Summoning on too many banners and ending up with several unfinished characters.
Upgrading the entire roster equally instead of developing a strong carry and core team.
Ignoring character synergy and building teams purely from rarity or Battalion Power.
Overinvesting in temporary SR characters and early equipment.
Ignoring the Training Dojo, which teaches several important battle mechanics.
Leaving valuable event rewards unclaimed because your team cannot clear every difficulty.
Ignoring Mercenaries when they could help you progress farther.
Skipping Alliance participation and losing access to useful resources and experienced players.
Using rare upgrade materials without understanding their long-term value.
Avoiding these mistakes can make a larger difference than trying to optimize every small decision from the beginning.
Your overall progression should revolve around a few principles rather than a rigid checklist.
Advance Story Mode and unlock important systems. Complete the Training Dojo to understand combat. Accumulate Soul Stones instead of chasing every banner. Choose a strong long-term character when the right opportunity appears. Concentrate your upgrades on that character and a compatible supporting core.
Use events, Online Story, Mercenaries, and Alliance content to obtain additional resources.
Most importantly, keep your account flexible.
Evertale regularly introduces characters with new interactions and stronger kits. Saving resources gives you options when something genuinely valuable appears.
Rerolling can give a new account an early advantage, but it should not become more important than long-term account management.
A good initial character can make story and event progression easier. However, one early summon does not compensate for months of poor Soul Stone spending or inefficient character development.
For most players, building a sustainable resource economy is more important than chasing a theoretically perfect start.

SSR characters provide the foundation for stronger long-term teams, but beginners should not interpret that as a reason to summon constantly.
Use available SR characters and story units while building resources. When you eventually obtain a strong SSR that fits your account, start shifting the bulk of your premium development materials toward it.
The objective is not to collect the largest number of SSR characters.
The objective is to build useful SSR characters that work together.
Free-to-play progression depends primarily on efficiency.
Story rewards, events, Soul Stone management, Alliance participation, Mercenaries, and careful investment can all improve your account without requiring constant purchases.
The most important advantage a free-to-play player can create is patience.
Soul Stones you do not waste remain available for better summons later. Rare materials you do not spend on temporary characters remain available for your actual core team.
Evertale rewards long-term resource discipline far more than constantly reacting to whatever appears on the screen.
Fast progression in Evertale does not mean spending every resource as quickly as possible.
It means getting more permanent value from every resource you spend.
Progress through the story, understand TU and skill conditions, complete the Training Dojo, take advantage of events and Mercenaries, and find an active Alliance. Most importantly, protect your Soul Stones and avoid scattering character development materials across units you may soon replace.
Once you develop your first strong carry and begin surrounding it with characters that share genuine synergy, progression becomes much smoother.
Build patiently, summon selectively, and invest with a purpose. Those habits will help your account far more than chasing short-term Battalion Power.
