WoW Forever Zephras Isle Guide: Quests, Leveling and Skyborne Starting Zone

Zephras Isle is the level 1–12 starting zone for the Skyborne in WoW Forever. Suspended within Skywall and facing collapse after its elemental guardians disappear, the island introduces Skyborne history, the Windshapers, High Order, Al'Aketh, faction identity, and the journey into wider Azeroth. This guide covers Zephras Isle leveling, quests, story, classes, and what players should know before leaving the starting zone.

What Is Zephras Isle?

Zephras Isle is the dedicated starting area for the new Skyborne, also known as the shen'dorei.

Unlike Forever's other major additions, Zephras is not simply an inaccessible corner of Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor being opened for exploration.

It is something intentionally more unexpected.

The island exists within Skywall, the elemental plane associated with air, where wind spirits once helped the ancestors of the Skyborne establish a refuge.

Blizzard describes Zephras as an elemental skybound starting experience for levels 1 through 12, blending the visual identity of Classic Warcraft with architecture inspired by Skywall.

That makes it comparable in purpose to Elwynn Forest, Durotar, Teldrassil, Dun Morogh, Mulgore, or Tirisfal Glades—but built specifically around Forever's new race and story.

Zephras Isle Level Range

Zephras Isle is designed for:

Levels 1–12.

That range is officially confirmed by Blizzard.

For most Skyborne characters, the recommended approach is simple:

Complete the starting experience before leaving for wider Azeroth.

The zone is built to introduce:

Skyborne history.

Basic class gameplay.

The crisis affecting Zephras.

Its major political groups.

The elemental identity of the race.

The Alliance/Horde divide.

The character's transition into the larger world.

Leaving significantly early may mean missing much of the context that explains why Skyborne characters have entered the wider conflict in the first place.

The History Behind Zephras Isle

The Skyborne are new to WoW Forever, but Blizzard has connected their origin to established Warcraft history.

Their ancestors were rebels who fled Eldre'Thalas after the War of the Ancients.

Eventually, these refugees reached Skywall.

There, wind spirits helped them create a new home by anchoring Zephras within the elemental plane.

Over generations, the isolated population became the people known as the Skyborne or shen'dorei—the "hidden people."

This connection is important to Forever's broader world-building philosophy.

Zephras is new.

But its history is tied to:

The Highborne.

Eldre'Thalas.

The War of the Ancients.

Elemental forces.

Existing Warcraft history.

That allows Blizzard to introduce a new playable culture without treating it as though it appeared from nowhere.

Why Zephras Isle Is Falling Apart

Your Skyborne adventure does not begin during a peaceful period.

Zephras is in crisis.

The elemental benefactors who once supported the island have disappeared.

At the same time, the pylons that keep Zephras stable are failing.

Sections of the island are beginning to collapse into ruin and darkness.

That creates the central problem behind the starting experience.

The Skyborne are forced to confront questions they may have been able to avoid while isolated:

Who should lead?

How should Zephras be saved?

Should the Skyborne reconnect with the wider world?

Should they embrace their arcane ancestry?

Should they strengthen their elemental traditions?

What should happen if the old system supporting their society cannot be restored?

These questions create the foundation for the factions and ideological conflict players encounter while leveling.

The Three Major Groups on Zephras Isle

Blizzard has confirmed three important groups competing for influence as the crisis deepens:

The Windshapers

The High Order

The Al'Aketh

The complete quest structure surrounding each organization has not yet been publicly documented, but the Windshapers and High Order are especially important because they reflect the two playable Skyborne directions.

The Windshapers

The Windshapers are closely associated with the Skyborne's elemental traditions.

That identity aligns naturally with Horde Skyborne, who gain access to the Shaman class.

The Windshaper path emphasizes the connection between the Skyborne and elemental forces that helped their people survive in Skywall.

Current pre-release racial information also uses Windshaper Skyborne as the Horde racial profile.

For players interested in:

Elemental magic.

Shamanism.

Wind-based culture.

The Skyborne's relationship with Skywall.

the Horde-aligned direction provides the strongest thematic connection.

The High Order

The High Order represents another path for Skyborne society.

Rather than centering its identity on elemental tradition, the High Order looks toward the arcane legacy of the Skyborne's ancestors.

That direction aligns with Alliance Skyborne.

Alliance-aligned characters gain access to Mage, and current racial information identifies them as High Order Skyborne.

The High Order therefore connects Zephras back toward the Skyborne's Highborne heritage and the magical traditions that preceded their isolation in Skywall.

The Al'Aketh

The Al'Aketh are also confirmed as one of the forces competing over Zephras Isle.

Blizzard has not yet released the same amount of detail about their goals, leadership, or complete quest progression as it has revealed about the broader Windshaper and High Order divide.

That makes them one of the starting zone's largest remaining mysteries.

Any guide claiming a complete Al'Aketh storyline, final reputation rewards, or named quest chain before those details are officially available should be treated cautiously.

How Zephras Isle Quests Are Structured

Blizzard has not yet published a complete quest database for the zone.

However, the confirmed story establishes the major purposes those quests need to serve.

The Zephras Isle questing experience introduces:

The island.

The Skyborne.

The failing pylons.

The disappearance of their elemental benefactors.

The rival groups seeking control.

Your faction identity.

Your class.

The eventual transition into wider Azeroth.

This means Zephras should be treated as a story-driven starting zone, not simply an efficient collection of level 1–12 enemy-killing quests.

For a first character, reading the story and following the major quest chains will provide important context for the race.

Are There Separate Alliance and Horde Quests?

Skyborne choose their faction at character creation, not after completing the entire starting zone.

Because faction choice is established before the adventure begins, Alliance and Horde Skyborne already enter Zephras with different identities.

Alliance Skyborne follow the arcane-oriented High Order direction.

Horde Skyborne follow the elemental Windshaper direction.

Blizzard has not yet published enough quest-by-quest information to state exactly how many quests are shared and how many are faction-specific.

The important confirmed point is that the faction difference exists from the beginning and affects both class access and racial identity.

Best Way to Level Through Zephras Isle

There is no verified speed-leveling route through Zephras yet.

The safest first-character strategy is therefore:

Follow the main quest flow.

Complete nearby side quests when they share the same area.

Train new class abilities when available.

Loot enemies.

Gather profession materials when convenient.

Replace weak equipment.

Avoid long detours unless they advance several objectives.

Complete the full racial storyline before moving into wider Azeroth.

Because Forever has no universal level scaling, character level and enemy level still matter.

If a quest suddenly feels much more difficult than surrounding content, check:

Your level.

Your weapon.

Your trained abilities.

Your health and mana.

Whether another nearby quest is intended to be completed first.

Classic-style leveling rewards preparation much more than simply forcing every objective immediately.

Level 1–5: Learn Your Class

The earliest part of a starting zone should be treated as class training.

You do not need an optimized rotation at level 2.

Instead, understand what each new ability does.

For a Skyborne Warrior, learn Rage and melee fundamentals.

For a Hunter, understand ranged combat and prepare for later pet-focused gameplay.

For a Rogue, learn Energy, Combo Points, and positioning.

For a Druid, begin understanding the class's spellcasting foundation before shapeshifting expands its options.

Alliance Mages should become comfortable with ranged casting and control.

Horde Shamans should begin learning the relationship between weapons, spells, healing, and elemental abilities.

Do not rush through these early levels without reading your spellbook.

Forever's class design intentionally makes complete class toolkits matter.

Level 5–10: Build Your Character

As more abilities become available, your character begins feeling more distinctive.

This is where you should start thinking about:

Resource management.

Pull size.

Crowd control.

Recovery between fights.

Weapon upgrades.

Class utility.

Professions.

Food.

Skyborne racials.

You should also begin using Zephras itself to understand one of Forever's most important lessons:

Terrain matters.

There are no flying mounts designed to let players ignore geography. Blizzard specifically describes Forever as preserving a world where travel, preparation, and exploration remain meaningful.

Skyborne have an unusual advantage here through their racial toolkit.

Use Walk on Air While Exploring Zephras

One of the shared Skyborne racials currently shown in pre-release material is Walk on Air.

It allows the character to glide downward through the air for up to 10 seconds.

That does not mean Skyborne can fly.

Instead, think of it as controlled descent.

On a vertical island suspended in an elemental sky realm, that ability is naturally valuable.

It may help with:

Descending from high terrain.

Reducing fall danger.

Moving between elevated areas.

Outdoor exploration.

Recovering from positioning mistakes.

The exact best shortcuts through Zephras should wait until the zone can be thoroughly tested.

But players should absolutely learn how their glide behaves during the starting experience.

Alliance Skyborne Recovery

Alliance High Order Skyborne currently receive Read Ley Line.

Pre-release information describes it as increasing Health and Mana regeneration by 100% when activated.

That can be useful while leveling because Classic-style combat includes meaningful downtime.

After a difficult fight, recovering quickly can help you move into the next pull sooner.

This should be especially useful for mana-based characters such as Mage and Druid.

But the health recovery portion can also help Warrior, Hunter, and Rogue.

Horde Skyborne Movement

Horde Windshaper Skyborne currently receive Skysight.

Pre-release information describes the Elemental Blessing as increasing run speed by 10%.

Movement speed is particularly useful during leveling because a large portion of Classic-style progression involves moving between:

Quest objectives.

NPCs.

Enemies.

Gathering nodes.

Settlements.

Flight paths.

For an outdoor-focused starting zone, movement utility can therefore translate into smoother progression even when it provides no direct damage.

Wind Blessed

Both factions currently share Wind Blessed.

The pre-release effect provides:

1% melee, ranged, and spellcasting Haste.

This is useful because Skyborne have a mixed class roster.

Warriors and Rogues benefit from melee Haste.

Hunters benefit from ranged Haste.

Mage and Shaman benefit from spellcasting Haste.

Druid can benefit across different forms and playstyles.

That makes the racial broadly useful rather than tied to one specific class.

Elemental Insight

The other shared passive currently shown is Elemental Insight.

Its pre-release effect increases damage against Elementals by 5%.

Zephras Isle's elemental setting makes this racial especially thematic during the starting experience.

However, it is situational.

It does nothing against enemies that are not Elementals.

That fits Forever's racial philosophy: racials should produce situations where your race has a noticeable advantage without being universally superior.

Should You Start Professions on Zephras Isle?

Forever expands professions with new recipes throughout the leveling journey, so starting professions early should generally be valuable.

However, Blizzard has not yet published the complete Zephras Isle profession-trainer layout, resource-node map, or island-specific profession quest list.

The correct approach is therefore:

Train useful professions when the zone naturally introduces them.

Gather materials that appear near your quest route.

Do not spend excessive time circling the island for nodes unless gathering is your main objective.

Forever's broader design explicitly adds profession hooks to starting experiences rather than treating professions as something players ignore until level 60.

What Classes Can Level on Zephras Isle?

Every Skyborne character uses Zephras as its starting experience, but class access depends partly on faction.

Both factions can play:

Warrior

Hunter

Rogue

Druid

Alliance Skyborne can additionally play:

Mage

Horde Skyborne can additionally play:

Shaman

There is currently no announced Skyborne:

Paladin.

Priest.

Warlock.

Do not plan a Zephras leveling route for one of those classes unless Blizzard officially expands the class roster.

Best Skyborne Class for Zephras Isle Leveling

It is too early to rank exact experience-per-hour, but class fundamentals still provide useful guidance.

Hunter

Hunter has one of the strongest long-term leveling foundations because ranged combat and pets provide excellent independent progression.

The very earliest levels occur before the class's full pet toolkit develops, so do not expect level 1 Hunter to feel identical to later Hunter leveling.

Druid

Druid should be particularly comfortable because of:

Self-healing.

Flexibility.

Shapeshifting progression.

Movement.

Multiple future dungeon roles.

The unique Skyborne Druid forms also give the class special visual appeal. Blizzard has confirmed that these forms are being created specifically for the race.

Mage

Alliance Skyborne Mage should appeal to players who enjoy ranged spellcasting and battlefield control.

As additional abilities become available, Mage gains powerful tools for keeping enemies away.

Shaman

Horde Skyborne Shaman fits Zephras particularly well thematically.

The class combines:

Elemental magic.

Weapons.

Healing.

Utility.

It also reflects the Windshaper side of Skyborne culture.

Rogue

Rogue provides controlled melee combat, Energy management, and eventually powerful stealth utility.

Its ability to choose engagements becomes increasingly useful once the full class toolkit develops.

Warrior

Warrior should remain the most gear-dependent choice.

A strong weapon can dramatically improve leveling, while poor equipment can make ordinary enemies feel much slower.

That does not make Warrior bad.

It simply rewards attention to equipment more than some other classes.

Skyborne Druid Forms

Skyborne Druid deserves special mention because Blizzard has confirmed race-specific Druid forms.

This means shapeshifting is visually integrated into Skyborne identity instead of reusing another race's models.

For players deciding between classes primarily for the racial experience, Druid may therefore provide the largest amount of unique visual content.

The full official catalogue of forms should still be verified when Blizzard documents them completely.

Avoid assuming that every form shown in pre-release footage represents the final complete set.

What Happens After Level 12?

Zephras is designed as the opening chapter, not an entire 1–60 leveling path.

Once the starting experience concludes, Skyborne transition into the wider leveling world associated with their chosen faction.

Alliance characters join Alliance progression.

Horde characters join Horde progression.

From there, the broader Forever journey continues across Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor with:

Existing zones.

New quests in old areas.

New transportation routes.

New dungeons.

Riverglades.

Shen'dralas.

Eventually higher-level regions such as Mount Hyjal.

Forever adds more than a thousand quests across the overall level 1–60 journey, so Zephras represents only your first introduction to the expanded world.

Should You Rush Through Zephras Isle?

For an alternate character, perhaps.

For your first Skyborne, probably not.

Zephras exists specifically to explain a race that did not appear as a playable people in original WoW.

If you rush purely toward level 12, you may miss the context behind:

Why the Skyborne were isolated.

How they came to Skywall.

Why their island is collapsing.

What happened to their elemental benefactors.

Why the Windshapers and High Order disagree.

Where the Al'Aketh fit into the crisis.

Why some Skyborne join the Alliance.

Why others join the Horde.

That story is the main reason Zephras exists.

Experience points are only one part of the starting zone.

Can Non-Skyborne Visit Zephras Isle?

Blizzard has officially described Zephras as the Skyborne starting experience, but has not fully documented long-term access rules for non-Skyborne characters.

Do not assume other races can freely travel there simply because it exists as a world location.

Similarly, do not assume the island becomes permanently inaccessible after the starting experience.

Those access details need to be verified through Blizzard's final implementation.

For now, the guaranteed use case is clear:

Zephras Isle is where Skyborne characters begin.

Are There Dungeons on Zephras Isle?

Blizzard has not announced a Zephras Isle dungeon as part of Forever's confirmed new dungeon roster.

The nine announced new dungeons are elsewhere in Azeroth, including Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, City of Dalaran, The Drowned City, Blackmaw Hold, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Shaper's Terrace, and the excavation site above Whelgar's Excavation.

Zephras should therefore be approached primarily as an outdoor starting-zone experience unless Blizzard announces additional instanced content.

Are There Zephras Isle Quest Rewards?

There will naturally be leveling rewards from the starting experience, but Blizzard has not yet published a complete reliable reward table.

Do not rely on guides claiming exact:

Best weapons.

Rare drops.

Quest armor.

Guaranteed profession recipes.

Treasure rewards.

Named quest reward progression.

until those items are verified.

The safest expectation is that Zephras functions like a complete starting zone and provides the equipment and progression needed to prepare a Skyborne for the wider 1–60 journey.

Zephras Isle and WoW Forever's Design Philosophy

Zephras is important because it shows how far Blizzard is willing to expand Forever without abandoning the original game.

The developers describe Forever additions in three categories:

Anticipated.

New but familiar.

Unexpected.

Zephras belongs to the unexpected category.

But Blizzard has also said additions like this will be used carefully.

The goal is not to fill Forever with endless new civilizations until original Azeroth becomes unrecognizable.

Zephras is designed as a surprising but self-contained experience, connected back into established history through Eldre'Thalas and the War of the Ancients.

That makes the island intentionally different from Riverglades.

Riverglades is supposed to feel as though it could have been hidden beside familiar Eastern Kingdoms zones all along.

Zephras is supposed to feel like discovering something genuinely unexpected.

Both approaches can exist without serving the same purpose.

What We Still Don't Know About Zephras Isle

Several major details remain unavailable.

Blizzard has not yet published:

A complete quest list.

Exact quest names.

A full quest order.

Exact XP rewards.

Every quest reward.

Rare spawn locations.

Treasure locations.

Profession-node maps.

Vendor inventories.

Flight or transport details.

Every named settlement.

A complete list of important NPCs.

Full Al'Aketh story details.

Whether non-Skyborne can freely return or visit.

The final best speed-leveling route.

That information should be added only once it can be verified.

Until then, the reliable core of the zone is its level range, Skyborne story, major factions, faction identity, and function as the race's introduction to Forever.

Best Advice for Your First Zephras Isle Character

Do not overcomplicate the starting zone.

Choose the faction your friends are playing.

Choose a class you genuinely want to continue through level 60.

Follow the main quest chains.

Read the Skyborne story at least once.

Learn your racial abilities early.

Use Walk on Air to become comfortable with vertical movement.

Train your class abilities.

Pick up professions when the game introduces them.

Keep important material drops.

Replace weak weapons.

Do not force enemies above your comfortable level.

And finish the Skyborne introduction before worrying about an optimized Azeroth leveling route.

Zephras Isle is designed to answer a simple question:

Who is your Skyborne before they enter the rest of Azeroth?

Understanding that story will make the transition into Forever's larger world much more meaningful.
