Start Trove with a clear progression path. This beginner’s guide explains leveling, Power Rank, gear, Gems, Light, Mastery, resources, and the most important upgrades to help you become stronger without wasting valuable materials.

Power Rank is particularly important because Adventure Worlds use it as one of the requirements for entering harder content. It is intended as an overall measurement of character strength and receives contributions from equipment, character progression, collections, Gems, and other systems.
However, higher Power Rank does not automatically mean your build is optimized.
Two characters with similar Power Rank can perform very differently if one has useful offensive stats and the other has poorly selected equipment or Gems.
For a beginner, your priorities should generally be:
Increase your class level.
Equip stronger appropriate gear.
Unlock and equip Gems.
Reach the Power Rank required for stronger worlds.
Improve the stats that actually benefit your class.
Start building Light when Darkness-based content becomes relevant.
Expand Mastery and account-wide bonuses over time.
You do not need to perfect each system before moving forward.
Early Trove progression is about gaining enough strength to unlock better sources of equipment and Gems.
Trove has many playable classes, and experimenting with them is part of the game. For progression, however, spreading your resources across too many classes immediately can slow you down.
Pick one class that you enjoy and use it as your primary progression character.
Classes generally scale around either Physical Damage or Magic Damage.
That distinction matters when selecting:
Gear
Rings
Gems
Offensive stats
Avoid investing heavily into equipment or Gems that increase the wrong damage type for your class.
For example, a physical class does not benefit from building Magic Damage simply because the item has more Power Rank.
Your goal is not merely to make the number beside Power Rank larger. Your stats should also improve the actual performance of your class.
For your first character, ease of use and enjoyment are more important than choosing whatever class currently has the highest theoretical damage.

Once you have stronger account-wide resources, developing additional classes becomes easier.
Normal class progression continues until level 30. After reaching level 30, additional experience contributes to the Paragon system instead of normal class levels.
Reaching level 30 is therefore one of the most important early milestones.
Higher levels give you access to more of your character's progression systems, particularly additional Gem sockets.
Reaching level 30 helps because you can:
Use your complete normal Gem layout.
Continue progression through Paragon Levels.
Develop the class as a subclass for other characters.
Concentrate on Power Rank, gear and Gem quality rather than basic leveling.
Paragon Levels remain useful beyond level 30 and can provide resources connected to Crystal rings and class-specific ring effects.
For a beginner, however, you do not need to optimize Paragon immediately. Reach level 30 first and treat Paragon as continued long-term progression.
Power Rank controls access to increasingly difficult Adventure Worlds, making it one of the numbers beginners notice most.
The current Adventure World progression no longer uses only the old numbered Uber naming system. Difficulty names now include stages such as Novice, Adept, Elite, Master, Uber, Shade, Fallow and progressively harder tiers. The Atlas displays the requirements for these worlds.
Do not worry about memorizing every threshold.
Instead, use the Atlas to identify the strongest world your character can reasonably enter and clear.
You can improve Power Rank through sources including:
Gear
Gems
Character progression
Mastery
Rings
Allies
Subclass progression
Dragons and collections
Other permanent character and account bonuses
Early in the game, equipment upgrades can provide noticeable improvements.
As your character develops, Gems become one of the central progression systems, so simply replacing hats and weapons will not be enough.
An item giving slightly more Power Rank is not always a meaningful upgrade.
Pay attention to:
Your correct damage type
Critical Hit
Critical Damage
Attack Speed where appropriate
Movement Speed for farming
Maximum Health when survivability is a problem
Light once you enter content that uses Darkness
The value of individual stats also depends on the class and build.
Your long-term objective is a strong build, not merely a large Power Rank number.
Gems are one of Trove's most important character progression systems.
There are four Gem elements:
Water
Air
Fire
Cosmic
Each element can ultimately use:
Two Lesser Gems
One Empowered Gem
That gives a complete character Gem setup of twelve Gems across the four elements. Empowered Gems also provide special effects, while Class Gems can modify abilities for a specific class.
Gem sockets are unlocked progressively as your character gains levels, meaning leveling your main class directly opens more opportunities to increase your stats and Power Rank.
Cosmic sockets are among the later unlocks, with Cosmic Gem slots appearing at levels 25, 27 and 30.
This is another reason reaching level 30 should be an early priority.
A good Gem should provide stats that actually contribute to your build.
For damage-focused characters, common priorities revolve around:
Physical Damage or Magic Damage
Critical Hit
Critical Damage
The exact optimization depends on your class and stage of progression.
Do not heavily invest resources into a Gem simply because its starting Power Rank looks attractive if its important stats are wrong for your character.
Gem Dust is used to level Gems, while other Gem-related resources become increasingly valuable when you begin improving higher-quality Gems.
A common beginner mistake is spending too much on temporary Gems.
Upgrade enough to keep progressing, but avoid treating every early Gem as a permanent investment.
Your goal is eventually to replace weaker Gems with better-quality options rather than endlessly repairing an inefficient early setup.
Gear drops naturally while defeating enemies and completing dungeons. Trove equipment has multiple quality tiers, with Crystal equipment becoming important later in progression.
Current Trove progression extends beyond older guides that stop at Stellar or early Crystal equipment. Crystal 5 equipment exists, while the Rising Tides progression also introduced Mystic gear as an upgrade path from Crystal 5 for advanced players.
As a beginner, though, Mystic gear should not be your immediate concern.
At low Power Rank, you will often find better equipment faster than it is worth fully upgrading your existing equipment.
Compare new drops and prioritize useful stat combinations.
Spend resources carefully until you reach gear worth keeping for longer.
The Loot Collector is an important part of Trove's resource loop.
Unwanted equipment can be loot collected instead of simply occupying inventory space, and Flux can be obtained by loot collecting equipment.
This makes dungeon farming useful even when the gear itself is not an upgrade.
A drop can still contribute resources toward future crafting and progression.
At some point, increasing Power Rank alone stops being enough.
Harder content introduces the interaction between Light and Darkness.
Light is found on sources including Crystal equipment and Cosmic Gems. Enemies affected by Darkness become extremely difficult to damage when your Light is insufficient.
Think of them separately:
Power Rank represents broad character progression and helps unlock content.
Light helps overcome the Darkness stat used by enemies in relevant higher-level content.
A character can therefore have enough Power Rank for part of the progression but still perform badly because its Light is too low.
Cosmic Gems are valuable because they are one of the primary sources of Light.
That means you should not ignore the Cosmic side of your Gem page after unlocking those sockets.
Eventually, improving Light becomes an essential part of moving into higher Adventure Worlds, advanced Delves, and other difficult content.
Current high-end progression demonstrates how important both statistics become: Long Shade requires 42,500 Power Rank and 10,000 Light for entry. That is an endgame target rather than something a beginner needs to chase immediately.
Mastery is account progression rather than something you should treat as a side activity with no combat value.
You gain Trove Mastery from sources such as:
Collections
Leveling classes
Styles
Recipes
Other collectible progression
The first 500 Trove Mastery ranks grant permanent Health, Damage, and Power Rank bonuses, while ranks beyond 500 continue providing Power Rank and Magic Find.
That means collecting things can gradually make your account stronger.
Mounts, styles, recipes, classes and other collectibles are not purely cosmetic.
They can contribute Mastery points, which eventually translate into additional account power and rewards.
This makes Trove different from games where collection hunting is disconnected from character strength.
When choosing between immediately selling, discarding or collecting something new, consider whether it contributes to your collection.
Mastery milestones provide additional account rewards and bonuses.
For example, current Mastery progression lists Trading Post and Marketplace access at Mastery Rank 20.
Because of this, progressing your collection naturally while developing your first character can be more efficient than ignoring Mastery completely.
Once you have additional classes available, the subclass system provides another layer of character bonuses.
A subclass can provide:
A passive ability
An additional stat bonus
The effectiveness of subclass bonuses can scale with the Power Rank of the class being used as the subclass.
This creates another reason to develop more than one class eventually.
Do not immediately divide all of your resources among several characters just to improve subclasses.
Your main character should still receive the majority of your early investment.
After it can farm effectively, developing secondary classes becomes much easier.
Flux is one of Trove's most important general-purpose resources.
You will encounter many systems that consume Flux, so learning not to waste it early makes later progression easier.
You can obtain Flux through activities including loot collecting unwanted equipment, while the Marketplace eventually creates opportunities to turn tradable resources and items into Flux.
Beginners frequently spend Flux on small upgrades or items that quickly become irrelevant.
Before making a large purchase or upgrade, ask:
Will this help my main class progress?
Is this item temporary?
Can I farm the same thing reasonably?
Will I need this Flux for an important upgrade soon?
Does this purchase improve combat strength, farming efficiency, or permanent account progress?
Saving resources does not mean refusing to spend them.
It means spending them where they remove an actual progression bottleneck.
Power is only one part of efficient progression.
Trove involves repeating dungeons, moving between objectives, gathering materials and clearing worlds. A character that travels and clears quickly can sometimes progress faster than one with slightly higher theoretical damage.
Movement Speed can help with:
Reaching dungeons faster
Moving between objectives
Material farming
Repeated dungeon clears
Mounts and wings also make world traversal much more convenient.
For farming-focused builds, mobility can be worth considering alongside combat stats once you have enough damage to clear efficiently.
Entering the hardest world available to your Power Rank is not always efficient.
If every enemy takes too long to kill, stepping down to easier content can result in more:
Dungeon completions
Equipment drops
Gem Boxes
Materials
Experience
The best farming difficulty is usually one where you can defeat enemies quickly without constantly dying.
Progression speed is about rewards earned over time, not simply entering the highest portal available.
Rings are another source of useful character stats.
Early Ringcrafting can provide rings built around stats such as Physical Damage or Magic Damage, while advanced progression eventually leads into Crystal rings and class-specific hidden effects.
You do not need a perfect endgame ring while learning the game.
Prioritize a ring that complements your class and continue improving the system as your account develops.
Once you reach level 30 and begin gaining Paragon Levels, Paragon resources become connected to higher-end Crystal ring progression.
Trove contains years of accumulated content.
A new account will quickly encounter systems involving:

Solve the current bottleneck first.
This keeps your progression focused instead of turning Trove into a list of unrelated grinds.
Several early mistakes can slow progression significantly.
Early equipment gets replaced frequently.
Avoid pouring expensive resources into something you are likely to replace soon.
Use temporary Gems to progress, but save expensive optimization for Gems worth keeping.
Know whether your class uses Physical Damage or Magic Damage before investing heavily.
Power Rank matters for unlocking content, but actual stats determine how effectively you fight.
Once Darkness-based content becomes relevant, Power Rank alone will not solve the problem.
Build one reliable farming character before heavily investing in several classes.
Collecting classes, recipes, styles and other items contributes permanent account progression and should not be treated as meaningless cosmetic content.
A slightly easier world that you can farm rapidly may provide more useful progression than struggling through a difficulty your character is technically allowed to enter.

Replace weak equipment as better drops become available.
Equip every Gem socket you unlock.

Once these fundamentals are in place, systems such as advanced Gem optimization, high-end Delves, Crystal equipment, Mystic gear, Paragon rings and specialized farming builds become much easier to understand.

With that foundation established, Trove's deeper progression systems become far more manageable.
