Heroes of the Storm Tier List – Best Heroes for Every Role
Choosing a strong Hero in Heroes of the Storm is about much more than checking win rates.
The game has multiple Battlegrounds, different objective types, unusual team compositions, and Heroes whose effectiveness changes significantly depending on the opposing draft. A Hero that dominates one map may become much less valuable on another, while mechanically demanding Heroes can perform very differently between average and high-ranked Storm League.
For this tier list, the main baseline is Storm League from Bronze through Platinum, with additional notes for Diamond, Master, and coordinated play where the meta changes significantly.
The current broad-meta S-tier group includes Johanna, Blaze, Hogger, Yrel, Qhira, Falstad, Sylvanas, Brightwing, and Rehgar. At higher ranks, Maiev, Hanzo, and Lúcio also move into S-tier territory because experienced teams can take greater advantage of their mobility, setup, and utility.

How This Heroes of the Storm Tier List Works
A tier list should be treated as a drafting guide rather than an absolute ranking of every Hero.
S Tier – Best Meta Heroes
S-tier Heroes are excellent across many drafts and Battlegrounds.
They normally combine several valuable qualities such as strong teamfighting, reliable crowd control, waveclear, mobility, survivability, macro pressure, or powerful utility.
They are usually safe early draft choices because opponents cannot easily make them useless with one counterpick.
A Tier – Strong and Reliable
A-tier Heroes are excellent choices but may have slightly clearer weaknesses or more specific requirements than S-tier picks.
Many can easily perform like S-tier Heroes on favorable Battlegrounds or when drafted into the right composition.
B Tier – Good but More Draft Dependent
B-tier Heroes are completely viable.
They may require certain maps, matchups, teammates, builds, or playstyles to reach their full potential.
A skilled player on a comfortable B-tier Hero can still outperform someone selecting an S-tier Hero they barely understand.
C Tier – Situational Picks
C-tier Heroes tend to have more obvious weaknesses or narrower draft conditions.
They can still be extremely effective when their particular strengths are needed, but blindly picking them into every match is less reliable.
D Tier – Highly Niche or Difficult to Recommend
D-tier placement does not mean a Hero is impossible to win with.
It means that other Heroes normally provide similar value with fewer limitations, or that the Hero requires unusually favorable conditions to justify the pick.
Best Tank Heroes
Tanks determine where fights happen. Their responsibilities include engaging, peeling for teammates, controlling dangerous areas, checking bushes, protecting the backline, and creating opportunities for damage dealers.
The strongest Tank is not necessarily the one with the most Health. Reliability and crowd control matter just as much.
S Tier – Johanna
Johanna is currently the standout general-purpose Tank.
She combines excellent durability with strong crowd control, disruption, waveclear, and the ability to remain functional even when the enemy team tries to lock her down.
Her reliability is what makes her particularly valuable.
Johanna does not require unusual team compositions to work, and she is useful in both objective fights and normal rotations. Current broad and high-rank tier evaluations both place her alone in S tier among Tanks.
She is one of the safest Tank choices when you do not yet know the complete enemy draft.
A Tier – Garrosh and Tyrael
Garrosh is one of the strongest punishment Tanks.
Enemies who position too aggressively around him risk being displaced directly into his team. His threat becomes particularly dangerous around narrow objective areas where opponents have less room to maneuver.
He rewards strong positioning and patience more than constant aggression.
Tyrael provides a different style of Tanking.
His mobility, protection, and ability to enable aggressive teammates make him particularly valuable in compositions that want to commit heavily to engagements.
Current performance data has also shown Tyrael producing excellent Storm League results, although raw win rate should always be interpreted alongside pick rate, player skill, and draft context.
Other Viable Tanks
Anub'arak, Arthas, Diablo, E.T.C., and Varian remain useful picks in the correct situations.
At Diamond through Grand Master, Diablo becomes more highly valued and moves into A-tier territory because coordinated teams can capitalize more consistently on his displacement and engage potential.
Mal'Ganis, Mei, Muradin, and Stitches are more situational in the current broad meta.
This does not make them useless. A strong Stitches hook composition, for example, can completely change how opponents are allowed to position. The issue is consistency compared with safer top-tier Tanks.
Best Bruisers and Offlaners
The offlaner is responsible for much more than winning a one-versus-one fight.
Strong offlaners need some combination of waveclear, survivability, lane control, camp efficiency, mobility, rotation speed, and useful teamfight abilities.
That is why some Heroes with impressive duel potential are not automatically top-tier offlaners.
S Tier – Blaze
Blaze is one of the strongest offlaners in the game.
His combination of waveclear and self-sustain allows him to maintain lane pressure efficiently, while his crowd control keeps him relevant once the team groups.
One important distinction is that Blaze's current strength is primarily as an offlaner, not as the team's main Tank.
His Tank engage is considerably easier to disrupt, which is why current tier evaluations place offlane Blaze at the top while ranking Tank Blaze much lower.
S Tier – Hogger
Hogger offers an extremely complete offlane package.
He can clear minion waves quickly, take mercenary camps efficiently, survive pressure, rotate, and still contribute substantial damage during teamfights.
His terrain interactions also create opportunities that many other Bruisers simply cannot reproduce.
A good Hogger player can generate value even when no major objective is active because he handles so many macro responsibilities efficiently.
S Tier – Yrel
Yrel brings durability, mobility, disruption, and strong survival tools.
Recent balance updates significantly improved her basic abilities before some follow-up tuning, strengthening her position as a premier offlaner. The July live patch increased her healing, damage, crowd control, and reduced several Mana costs, while a later hotfix slightly reduced one healing talent.
She is especially dangerous around terrain where her displacement and mobility can disrupt enemy formations.
A Tier – Chen, Dehaka, Rexxar, and Sonya
Chen remains a strong offlane option when his defensive mechanics are used correctly.
Dehaka is particularly valuable because his global movement allows him to pressure lanes while still threatening to join important fights.
Rexxar offers exceptional control on maps where holding an area or objective matters. Current replay-based performance data has also shown him among the highest-winning Storm League Heroes, demonstrating how powerful he can be when played effectively.
Sonya remains a dependable Bruiser with good sustain, camp clear, lane pressure, and teamfight potential.
These Heroes may not have the same universal draft safety as Blaze, Hogger, or Yrel, but each can become exceptional in the right match.
Best Ranged Assassin Heroes
Ranged Assassin is one of the largest and most varied roles in Heroes of the Storm.
Some specialize in sustained Basic Attack damage, others rely on ability burst, poke, mobility, siege pressure, or objective damage.
This means there is no single Ranged Assassin that is ideal for every composition.
S Tier – Falstad
Falstad remains one of the strongest all-around Ranged Assassins.
His major advantage is flexibility.
He provides reliable damage while also having global mobility, allowing him to collect experience or create pressure before rapidly joining his team.
Mighty Gust gives him another layer of utility, as it can disengage dangerous fights, isolate opponents, or influence contested objectives and Boss areas.
A Hero who combines damage, mobility, macro pressure, and fight-changing utility is difficult to replace.
S Tier – Sylvanas
Sylvanas is another highly flexible top-tier Ranged Assassin.
She can contribute burst or sustained damage while also bringing exceptional structure pressure.
Her ability to disable enemy structures gives teams opportunities to convert advantages into Forts and Keeps more aggressively than many traditional Assassins can.
That makes Sylvanas valuable not only for winning fights but also for turning those wins into permanent map progress.
High-Level S Tier – Hanzo
For most players, Hanzo requires enough mechanical accuracy that his consistency varies.
At Diamond through Grand Master, however, current tier evaluations move Hanzo into S tier alongside Falstad and Sylvanas.
His range, poke, vision tools, burst potential, and objective damage become significantly more dangerous when abilities are landed consistently.
This is a good example of why one universal tier list cannot perfectly describe every skill level.
A Tier Ranged Assassins
Strong general-meta choices include:
Cassia, Chromie, Mephisto, Nazeebo, Tracer, Valla, and Zul'jin.
Each fills a somewhat different purpose.
Cassia combines strong damage with considerable survivability against certain threats.
Chromie excels at long-range pressure and controlling areas before enemies comfortably enter them.
Mephisto becomes extremely dangerous when enemies group together.
Nazeebo combines waveclear, siege pressure, and powerful scaling.
Tracer provides mobility and constant pressure against vulnerable targets.
Valla offers exceptionally strong sustained damage when protected properly.
Zul'jin can become increasingly dangerous as a match progresses and is particularly threatening when allowed to attack safely.
At higher skill levels, Genji, Junkrat, Orphea, and Sgt. Hammer also rise into A-tier territory because their specialized strengths become more reliable in experienced hands.
Best Melee Assassin Heroes
Melee Assassins can be difficult to evaluate because their performance is often heavily influenced by player skill and team composition.
Unlike most Tanks and Bruisers, many Melee Assassins cannot simply remain inside the enemy team indefinitely.
They need to recognize the correct moment to engage.
S Tier – Qhira
Qhira is currently the safest broad-meta S-tier Melee Assassin.
She combines mobility, damage, survivability, and strong kill pressure.
Unlike some highly specialized Melee Assassins, Qhira can contribute in a wide variety of situations without requiring the entire draft to revolve around enabling her.
That versatility is a major reason she performs so well in general Storm League evaluations.
High-Level S Tier – Maiev
Maiev becomes one of the game's most dangerous Heroes when controlled by an experienced player.
Her ability to punish grouped enemies, reposition opponents, and create devastating engagements gives coordinated teams enormous fight-winning potential.
For Bronze through Platinum she is generally placed in A tier, while Diamond through Grand Master evaluations move her into S tier.
The difference is execution.
Missing an important setup on Maiev can leave her with limited value, while correctly grouping enemies can decide an entire fight.
A Tier – Kerrigan and Thrall
Kerrigan can generate explosive kill opportunities through her combo and follow-up damage.
When her team can capitalize on her crowd control, one successful engagement can quickly remove a target.
Current replay-based win-rate data has also shown Kerrigan among the strongest-performing Storm League Heroes, although her execution requirements prevent raw statistics from telling the entire story.
Thrall provides strong dueling, sustain, crowd control, and damage while being more forgiving than some traditional Melee Assassins.
He works especially well when opponents allow him to remain in combat long enough to use his sustain effectively.
Other Melee Assassin Options
Deathwing can function as an aggressive member of the four-player group rather than a conventional offlaner.
Zeratul becomes significantly more valuable in high-level play, where players can exploit his mobility and advanced engagement tools.
Alarak, Imperius, The Butcher, Valeera, and Varian are more draft-dependent.
The Butcher is a good example of a Hero whose perceived power can differ greatly between games. When allowed to scale and attack vulnerable targets he can look unstoppable, but coordinated opponents can deny those conditions.
Best Healer Heroes
Healers influence fights through more than raw healing totals.
Cleanse effects, crowd control, mobility, burst protection, positioning tools, and even waveclear can determine which Healer best fits a draft.
S Tier – Brightwing
Brightwing is one of the safest Healer picks in the current meta.
She brings reliable healing, crowd control, global presence, and powerful defensive utility.
Her Polymorph is particularly useful against mobile Heroes who depend on quickly entering and escaping fights.
Global mobility also means Brightwing can support map pressure without permanently separating herself from the team.
These combined strengths keep her in S tier across both general and high-rank evaluations.
S Tier – Rehgar
Rehgar combines healing with unusually strong macro utility.
He provides both sustained and burst healing while also helping clear minion waves and mercenary camps faster than most Healers.
This means Rehgar can contribute to the parts of the game that occur between teamfights rather than simply following teammates waiting to heal them.
His versatility makes him one of the strongest general-purpose Healers.
High-Level S Tier – Lúcio
Lúcio becomes especially powerful in coordinated and high-ranked play.
His movement-speed utility allows teams to engage, retreat, rotate, and reposition more effectively, while his defensive tools can save teammates from dangerous situations.
Current high-level evaluations place him in S tier, even though his value is harder to realize in less coordinated games.
A Tier – Anduin, Auriel, Malfurion, and Tyrande
Anduin is a dependable Healer with strong defensive tools and the ability to rescue allies from dangerous positioning.
Auriel can produce excellent healing when paired with teammates capable of consistently generating the resources she needs.
Malfurion provides strong sustain and useful crowd control.
Tyrande combines healing with offensive setup, making her particularly valuable when the team can coordinate around vulnerable targets.
These Heroes are excellent choices, but their value can depend more heavily on composition and execution than Brightwing or Rehgar.
What About Whitemane?
Whitemane deserves special attention because current public win-rate data has shown extremely strong results.
Her healing can be exceptional when damage and Zeal management are handled properly, but she remains more mechanically demanding and less universally reliable than the safest meta Healers.
Recent balance work also changed her Searing Lash interactions and several talents.
This illustrates an important tier-list lesson: high win rate does not automatically mean universally best pick.
Best Support Heroes
Support is the most unusual role in Heroes of the Storm.
These Heroes often provide value through mechanics that cannot be measured simply through damage or healing.
Because their kits are unconventional, their effectiveness changes dramatically with player skill and team coordination.
Medivh
Medivh is perhaps the clearest example of a skill-dependent Hero.
In general Storm League rankings he can struggle because teammates may not fully capitalize on Portals, protection, scouting, and coordinated setup.
At Diamond through Grand Master, however, Medivh rises all the way to A tier.
The Hero does not suddenly gain better numbers at higher rank.
Players simply use his unique tools more effectively.
Abathur
Abathur offers global influence, lane pressure, allied enhancement, and unusual macro possibilities.
The July 2026 patch substantially reworked his Locust mechanics and several talents, making older guides particularly risky to rely on.
He remains highly composition- and map-dependent.
Drafting Abathur means your team must understand how to play with his global pressure and temporary absence from normal five-Hero positioning.
Zarya
Zarya provides shields, damage, and teamfight utility.
She can work extremely well in compositions where teammates repeatedly create opportunities for her shielding mechanics to generate value.
However, she is not usually a universal early draft pick.
The Lost Vikings
The Lost Vikings operate more like a specialist macro Hero than a conventional Support.
Their ability to influence several parts of the map at once can produce enormous experience and map advantages, but controlling multiple units effectively requires considerable awareness and practice.
They are the type of Hero where player mastery matters far more than a simple letter grade.
Best Overall Heroes in the Current Meta
If you want a smaller pool of consistently valuable Heroes rather than learning the entire roster, the strongest current choices are centered around:
Tank: Johanna
Offlane: Blaze, Hogger, Yrel
Ranged Assassin: Falstad, Sylvanas
Melee Assassin: Qhira
Healer: Brightwing, Rehgar
High-rank specialists: Maiev, Hanzo, Lúcio
These Heroes represent the current S-tier baseline for normal Storm League and high-rank play.
That does not mean every team should simply draft five names from this group.
A good composition still needs functional roles, damage types, waveclear, objective pressure, survivability, and tools that make sense against the enemy team.
Why Win Rate Does Not Always Match the Tier List
Win-rate statistics are useful, but they need context.
Current Heroes Profile data is built from uploaded replays rather than every match played, and the site itself notes that its statistics depend on replay submissions.
Some Heroes also attract specialists, while others are selected frequently by inexperienced players.
A difficult Hero can therefore have mediocre overall win rates while remaining extremely powerful when mastered.
The opposite can happen with straightforward or niche Heroes.
A recent public performance snapshot placed Rexxar, Whitemane, Illidan, Kerrigan, and Tyrael among the highest Storm League win-rate performers, yet those Heroes occupy several different positions in expert tier evaluations.
That difference is normal.
Tier strength considers more than the final win percentage.
How Battlegrounds Change Hero Tiers
Heroes of the Storm is particularly difficult to rank because Battlegrounds change what teams need.
A global Hero can become much stronger on a large map.
Heavy objective damage becomes more valuable on Battlefield of Eternity.
Strong camp clear matters greatly on maps where mercenary pressure is important.
Sustained teamfighting gains value when objectives require teams to control an area for extended periods.
Waveclear becomes especially important when rotations between lanes determine which team maintains experience pressure.
Current map-specific tier evaluations therefore differ from the general list rather than simply repeating the same rankings everywhere.
A strong draft asks not only:
Which Hero is stronger?
It also asks:
Which Hero is stronger here?
When You Should Ignore the Tier List
Tier lists are most useful when choosing between Heroes you already play reasonably well.
Do not abandon a Hero you understand completely just because another Hero sits one tier higher.
Mechanical comfort, matchup knowledge, talent choices, map understanding, and positioning can easily outweigh a small theoretical difference in tier strength.
You should also ignore generic tier placement when a Hero perfectly solves a specific draft problem.
A normally lower-tier Hero who directly counters several enemy picks may be more valuable than a generic S-tier choice.
Common Drafting Mistakes
One of the largest mistakes is selecting a Hero purely because they appear in S tier.
A team can still fail if it lacks a proper Tank, reliable healing, waveclear, or enough damage to finish targets.
Another mistake is drafting mechanically demanding Heroes without considering execution.
Hanzo, Maiev, Medivh, and other high-skill Heroes can be exceptional in expert hands, but their theoretical strength does not matter if their important abilities are consistently missed or their utility is not used correctly.
Players also frequently ignore the Battleground.
The best Hero on one map may simply be a good Hero on another.
Finally, avoid treating win rate as a substitute for understanding the draft.
Numbers explain what has happened across many games. They do not automatically explain what your specific team needs.
How to Build a Strong Hero Pool
A practical Hero pool should contain enough flexibility to handle different drafts without forcing you to learn the entire roster.
Try to become highly comfortable with several Heroes in your preferred role rather than constantly switching to whichever character recently moved upward on a tier list.
If you primarily Tank, knowing Johanna plus several alternatives such as Garrosh or Tyrael gives you more flexibility when bans and counters appear.
Offlaners benefit from understanding both durable lane holders and Heroes with strong map mobility.
Damage players should ideally know different damage profiles rather than five Heroes that all accomplish the same thing.
Healers benefit from having both safe general choices and more specialized options for particular team compositions.
Hero mastery makes your tier list considerably larger because more picks become realistically available to you.
Heroes of the Storm Tier List FAQ
Who is the best Tank in Heroes of the Storm?
Johanna is currently the strongest general-purpose Tank and the only Tank placed in S tier across both broad Storm League and high-rank evaluations.
She combines exceptional survivability with reliable crowd control and works in many different team compositions.
Who are the best Bruisers?
Blaze, Hogger, and Yrel are the strongest current general offlane choices.
All three combine strong lane control with meaningful teamfight value.
Who is the best Ranged Assassin?
Falstad and Sylvanas are the strongest broad-meta choices because both provide damage alongside powerful utility and map impact.
Hanzo joins them in S tier at higher ranks, where players can use his more mechanically demanding kit consistently.
Who is the best Melee Assassin?
Qhira is currently the safest overall S-tier Melee Assassin for broad Storm League play.
Maiev joins the S tier at Diamond through Grand Master and can be one of the strongest teamfight Heroes when played correctly.
Who is the best Healer?
Brightwing and Rehgar are currently the strongest broadly reliable Healers.
Lúcio also reaches S tier in high-ranked play where teams make better use of his mobility and utility.
Are tier lists different for Quick Match?
Yes.
Quick Match compositions are less predictable because players choose their Hero before matchmaking creates the team.
Heroes with self-sustain, independence, or tools that work without a conventional Tank or Healer can therefore become considerably stronger in Quick Match than in drafted Storm League.
Is there a different tier list for ARAM?
Yes.
ARAM removes much of the normal macro game and concentrates players into constant single-lane fighting.
That changes Hero value significantly.
Wave rotations, global abilities, and split pressure become less important, while poke, sustain, area damage, and teamfight abilities become more valuable.
How often can the Heroes of the Storm meta change?
The meta can shift whenever balance changes alter Heroes, talents, maps, or important mechanics.
The July 20, 2026 live patch changed several Heroes significantly, including Abathur, Diablo, Genji, Ragnaros, Whitemane, and Yrel, demonstrating why old tier lists can quickly become misleading.
Final Thoughts
The best Heroes in Heroes of the Storm are not simply those with the highest damage numbers or win rates.
The current meta strongly favors Heroes that can contribute in several different ways.
Johanna offers dependable frontline control. Blaze, Hogger, and Yrel combine macro strength with teamfighting. Falstad and Sylvanas bring damage plus major strategic utility. Qhira provides reliable Melee Assassin pressure, while Brightwing and Rehgar offer complete healing packages.
At higher levels, the picture becomes more complex.
Heroes such as Maiev, Hanzo, Lúcio, Medivh, and Zeratul become stronger as mechanical execution and team coordination improve.
Use the tier list as a starting point, but always consider the Battleground, enemy draft, team composition, and your own experience with the Hero.
A well-played A-tier Hero that perfectly fits the match is often a better choice than blindly locking an S-tier Hero.
