Sparring partner or piloted hours?

Sparring partner (self-play)

Piloted hours

How it works

You host a friendly match in Casual and the player joins with your lobby code to play against you

The player plays on your club while you're offline

What you can play

Friendly matches against a strong opponent, as many as your hours allow

Ranked, Showdown, Squad League, Playoffs, challenges and events

You need

Time to play the full session and a way to share your lobby code

No time at the screen

Best for

Practising against a higher level than you meet in Ranked

Keeping your club moving on busy days

What you can do with your hours

Spend your UFL rent a gamer hours on one goal, or mix activities in the same session.

Choose your session length

  • 60 minutes: a focused session, such as a set of sparring friendlies or your daily Playoffs and challenges.

  • 120 minutes: a longer sparring block, or a mix of Ranked, Squad League and challenges.

  • 300 minutes: a full day of piloted progress across several modes.

Need more? Book the same player again, and where the offer allows it, split your minutes across several days.

Before your UFL rent a gamer session

  • A lobby code, for sparring sessions: go to Play Online, then Casual, then Host, create a lobby and share the code in the order chat.

  • The right platform: for sparring, a seller on your own platform is the simplest choice. Crossplay lets PS5, Xbox and PC players meet, but if you've turned on PC-only matchmaking, switch it off before your session.

  • Your squad ready, with the formation and players you want to practise or play with.

  • Your goals for piloted hours, such as which challenges, modes or events come first.

How it works

  1. Choose sparring or piloted, your activity and 60, 120 or 300 minutes, then pick a seller's offer.

  2. Complete checkout and agree on a start time with the seller in the order chat.

  3. Share your lobby code for sparring, or your priorities for piloted hours.

  4. Play your session against your player, or let the player handle your piloted hours.

  5. Confirm the order when the time is used, or book more with the same player.

UFL rent a gamer FAQ

Can my rented player join my team online?

No. UFL's online play with another person is head-to-head, and a second player on your team only works locally on a second controller. That's why sparring sessions are friendlies against you, and anything on your own club runs as piloted hours.

Do I keep everything earned during my hours?

Yes. CP, Showdown and Squad Tokens, challenge rewards, Star Points and ladder progress from piloted hours all stay on your club.

How are my minutes counted?

Your session starts at the time you agree with the seller. Each offer explains how time is counted, including short breaks between matches.

What's the difference between rent a gamer and a boost?

UFL rent a gamer is time: you book minutes with a player and decide what to do with them. A boost is a result, such as a UFL ranked wins boost for a set number of wins, finished however long it takes.

Is sparring the same as coaching?

No. A sparring partner plays strong matches against you so you can practise. A coach watches how you play and tells you what to change. For lessons, see UFL coaching.
