WARDOGS Server Status: Is WARDOGS Down? Connection Errors and Fixes

Can’t connect to WARDOGS, stuck in the login queue, getting kicked from matches, or seeing “Failed to connect to the server in a reasonable time”? Before reinstalling the game or changing random Windows settings, check whether the problem is actually on your PC.

September 21, 202620 min read

Check out some of our most popular WARDOGS services:

WARDOGS had major connection pressure immediately after its Early Access launch.

Players reported:

Long login queues.

Being returned to the back of the queue.

Servers appearing full when they were not.

Failed connection attempts.

Unexpected disconnections.

Empty or unreliable server-browser results.

Crashes during login.

Launcher errors.

BULKHEAD and Team17 acknowledged several of those issues publicly and released launch-side stability work, followed by server-browser maintenance and Patch 0.11.

That history makes one question extremely common whenever the game refuses to connect:

Is WARDOGS down right now, or is the problem on my PC?

The answer is not always obvious.

A server-side problem can look like a broken installation.

A local anti-cheat or launcher problem can look like an outage.

A routing problem can let your friend connect while you cannot.

And a single overloaded server does not necessarily mean the entire WARDOGS service is offline.

This guide will help you separate those situations properly.

Is WARDOGS Down Right Now?

As of September 21, 2026, WARDOGS appears broadly online, with no newly announced global server shutdown in the latest official Steam announcements.

During the latest check for this article, WARDOGS' Steam Community page was showing well over 100,000 players in-game, while the most recent official announcements did not report a new global outage or maintenance period for September 21. That strongly suggests the overall service is currently available, although it does not guarantee that every region, individual server, login service, or player connection is healthy.

This distinction is important.

If:

150,000+ players are online

but

you cannot connect,

then the game is probably not completely offline worldwide.

Possible alternatives include:

A regional issue.

One official server cluster failing.

Steam problems.

A login-service issue.

Server-browser problems.

Your ISP route.

Firewall or antivirus interference.

Elytra launcher problems.

Corrupted files.

A current WD launcher error.

That is why you should never assume:

“I cannot connect = every WARDOGS server is down.”

Check several signals first.

WARDOGS Does Not Currently Have a Simple Public Global Status Dashboard

The safest status checks are the official Steam news feed, pinned developer support threads, and widespread simultaneous player reports.

At the time of writing, there is no clearly advertised BULKHEAD component-status page showing live green/red indicators for authentication, matchmaking, official servers, community servers, and regional clusters. That means players need to combine official announcements with current community evidence rather than trusting one random third-party “server status” site.

The most useful sources are:

Official WARDOGS Steam announcements.

Pinned WARDOGS Report a Problem threads.

BULKHEAD or Team17 developer updates.

Official community announcements.

Steam's own service condition.

Fresh player reports from the same time period.

The official Steam announcements have already been used to communicate:

Launch instability.

Maintenance.

Server browser changes.

Hotfixes.

That makes Steam one of the first places you should check.

How to Tell if WARDOGS Servers Are Down

The strongest sign of a real outage is many unrelated players reporting the same connection failure at approximately the same time.

One player receiving an error can indicate almost anything. Hundreds of players simultaneously reporting the same failed server joins, disappearing servers, unexpected kicks, or login queue behavior strongly suggests that the issue is on the service side rather than inside one person's PC.

This exact pattern happened during the Early Access launch.

Players reported:

Successful first matches followed by disconnections.

Every server failing to join.

“Failed to connect to the server in a reasonable time.”

Server queues appearing full.

Players being returned to menus.

Team17 acknowledged widespread login pressure and said high player volume was affecting the login servers.

When you see many people describing the same thing simultaneously:

Do not immediately reinstall Windows.

Do not delete half your network settings.

Do not assume your graphics driver caused the outage.

Check official updates first.

Check Whether Other Players Are Still In-Game

A large active player population does not prove every backend component is healthy, but it can quickly rule out some interpretations of a total outage.

If Steam still shows a very large number of active WARDOGS players, then the entire game infrastructure is unlikely to be completely offline. Login, matchmaking, server browser, or regional services can still be degraded while existing sessions continue running, so active player count should be treated as supporting evidence rather than a perfect status monitor.

For example:

You cannot log in.

But 150,000 players remain active.

Possible explanation:

Authentication or queue problem.

Not necessarily:

Every game server went offline.

Another scenario:

You are already inside a match.

Your friend cannot get through login.

Both can happen at the same time.

WARDOGS has already used controlled login waves during stability problems, allowing some players through while others remained in queues.

Scheduled Maintenance vs Unexpected Outage

Planned downtime should not be treated like a connection problem that needs troubleshooting.

WARDOGS has already used scheduled server shutdowns to deliver maintenance and patches. During planned maintenance, repeatedly verifying files, restarting routers, or changing firewall settings will not bring the servers back earlier because the service is intentionally unavailable.

Patch 0.11 is a good example.

BULKHEAD announced a temporary server shutdown for September 14 to improve the server-browser experience and perform maintenance, then later confirmed the servers were back up.

That is why the first step should always be:

Check official news.

If maintenance is active:

Your PC probably does not need fixing.

“Failed to Connect to the Server in a Reasonable Time”

This error often means the client reached the point of attempting a server connection but could not complete the join successfully within the allowed time.

The message became especially common during launch instability, when many players could see servers in the browser but failed when trying to enter them. Because many players experienced it simultaneously, the launch-era version was clearly capable of being a server-side problem rather than proof of a broken local connection.

If this happens once:

Try another server.

If it happens on every server:

Check official status.

Check current player reports.

Restart the game.

Make sure your client is updated.

If everyone else is reporting the same error:

Stop troubleshooting aggressively.

It is probably not just you.

If everyone else appears fine:

Move into local troubleshooting.

Server Queue Full Even When the Server Looks Empty

Server-browser population and actual available join capacity do not always represent exactly the same backend state.

During launch instability, players reported servers displaying available player slots while attempts returned “server queue full.” This happened widely enough that it should not automatically be interpreted as a visual bug on one player's machine.

A server can be:

Processing queued connections.

Restarting.

Failing to update browser population.

Holding reserved connections.

Temporarily refusing joins.

The correct response is usually:

Refresh.

Try another server.

Check whether other players are reporting the same behavior.

Avoid endlessly hammering the same join button.

Stuck in the WARDOGS Login Queue

A queue usually means the service is deliberately controlling how quickly players are allowed into the backend rather than accepting everyone simultaneously.

WARDOGS used controlled login waves during its launch stability problems. BULKHEAD's hotfix notes described players returning to the login queue and then being admitted gradually while the team monitored server stability.

That means being in a queue does not necessarily indicate:

Broken account.

Bad installation.

Ban.

Network failure.

At launch, queues were a traffic-control mechanism.

If the queue is moving:

Remain in it.

If it repeatedly resets:

Check official updates.

If everybody is suddenly reporting resets:

Likely service problem.

If only your queue behaves strangely:

Restart the client and Steam after making sure there is no update waiting.

WARDOGS Login Issues

Login problems can occur before the normal game-server connection stage, meaning server browser troubleshooting may not help.

Team17 officially acknowledged players experiencing login failures, crashes at login, and being returned to the back of the queue during launch. The team linked those problems partly to extremely high player volume and continued investigating while the login servers stabilized.

If you cannot reach the main game at all:

Check:

Game update.

Steam update.

Launcher.

Elytra.

Windows Security.

Network route.

Official login status reports.

This is different from:

“I can see the entire server browser but one server will not let me join.”

Different failure stage.

Different troubleshooting.

WARDOGS WD-L004, WD-L006, WD-L007, WD-L010, WD-L014 and WD-L020 Errors

Team17 has officially acknowledged this group of launcher and crash errors and continues to treat them as an active investigation area.

The pinned WARDOGS support thread specifically names WD-L004, WD-L006, WD-L007, WD-L010, WD-L014, and WD-L020 among errors affecting players who crash or cannot launch. Team17 has published several potential troubleshooting steps, but it also clearly warns that the same workaround will not solve every player's issue.

This matters.

Do not search:

“WD-L010 definitive fix”

and assume one random comment solves every WD-L010 case.

The codes appear inside a broader launcher/anti-cheat/startup problem family.

The official troubleshooting steps are safer places to begin.

Fix 1 – Restart WARDOGS and Steam

Start with the simplest fix because a stale client session or missing update can create connection failures that disappear immediately after a clean restart.

WARDOGS has already required client updates during server-side stability work, and players using an outdated active session were forced to restart during the first launch stability hotfix.

Close:

WARDOGS.

Steam.

Wait several seconds.

Restart Steam.

Check Downloads.

Make sure no WARDOGS update is pending.

Then launch again.

This should happen before:

Reinstalling.

Changing BIOS options.

Editing Windows security.

Changing DNS.

Always start simple.

Fix 2 – Verify WARDOGS Game Files

File verification is one of Team17's official first-line troubleshooting recommendations for launcher errors and crashes.

If a file became corrupted, incomplete, or mismatched after an update, Steam verification can replace it without forcing you to download the entire game again. Team17 directly recommends verifying WARDOGS files when troubleshooting WD launcher and crash errors.

In Steam:

Open Library.

Right-click WARDOGS.

Open Properties.

Go to Installed Files.

Choose Verify integrity of game files.

Let Steam complete the scan.

Then restart the game.

Do this before a full reinstall.

Verification is faster and often solves the same damaged-file problem.

Fix 3 – Repair Elytra

Team17 specifically recommends repairing Elytra when WARDOGS refuses to launch or produces supported WD error codes.

Elytra is part of the game's launch/security process, and Team17's official troubleshooting tells affected players to open the WARDOGS installation directory, locate the Elytra folder, run its setup, and select Repair.

After repairing:

Restart the PC.

Launch Steam.

Try WARDOGS again.

Do not download random Elytra installers from unofficial file sites.

Use the installer located inside your legitimate WARDOGS installation.

Fix 4 – Update Your GPU Driver

Graphics drivers may sound unrelated to connection problems, but crashes during launch can occur before you ever reach the server browser.

Team17 includes GPU-driver updates among its official troubleshooting recommendations for WARDOGS startup and WD error problems.

Use:

NVIDIA's official software/site.

AMD's official software/site.

Intel's official driver tools if relevant.

After updating:

Restart Windows.

Then test again.

If your problem is purely:

“Every server times out”

while the game itself runs perfectly,

a graphics driver is less likely to be the root cause.

Troubleshooting should match the symptom.

Fix 5 – Restart Your PC

A complete restart can clear stuck anti-cheat services, launcher processes, driver states, and network sessions that survive closing only the game.

Team17 explicitly includes restarting the PC after repair steps in its current recommendations.

Do a proper Restart.

Not:

Sleep.

Not:

Hibernate.

Not simply:

Close Steam.

A restart forces more services to reload.

Fix 6 – Test a Mobile Hotspot

A hotspot test is one of the best ways to determine whether your home ISP or routing path is involved.

Team17 specifically recommends testing WARDOGS through a mobile hotspot when possible. If the game fails consistently through your normal home internet but works immediately through another provider, that strongly points toward a network-path, ISP, DNS, filtering, or routing issue rather than a broken game installation.

This is a diagnostic test.

You do not necessarily need to play permanently on mobile data.

Test:

Home internet fails.

Mobile hotspot works.

That tells you something valuable.

Your next investigation should focus on:

Router.

ISP.

Routing.

Firewall.

DNS.

Not repeatedly reinstalling WARDOGS.

Current player reports have described exactly this pattern with some WD-L004 cases, although the specific root cause can vary and remains under investigation.

Fix 7 – Restart Your Router

A router restart can clear temporary connection and routing problems without requiring deeper network changes.

If other players are connecting normally and your connection began failing suddenly, restarting your modem/router is a reasonable low-risk troubleshooting step before editing advanced settings.

Power down the router.

Leave it briefly.

Restart it.

Wait until the connection fully returns.

Then:

Restart Steam.

Try WARDOGS.

Do not reset the router to factory settings.

A normal reboot is enough for this test.

Fix 8 – Use Ethernet if Possible

Wired Ethernet removes Wi-Fi interference as one possible source of packet loss and unstable connectivity.

A multiplayer connection can have excellent download speed and still perform badly because of Wi-Fi packet loss, interference, or unstable latency. WARDOGS' large server sessions benefit more from connection stability than from headline broadband speed.

If possible:

Connect Ethernet.

Test again.

If Ethernet works and Wi-Fi does not:

The WARDOGS servers were not necessarily the problem.

Investigate your wireless network.

Fix 9 – Check Firewall and Antivirus

Security software can interfere with WARDOGS or Elytra even when your internet connection itself works perfectly.

Team17 specifically advises players to check that WARDOGS and Elytra are not being blocked by antivirus, firewall, or Windows Security.

Do not blindly disable all security software permanently.

Instead:

Check blocked-app history.

Confirm the legitimate WARDOGS executable is allowed.

Confirm Elytra is not being quarantined.

Add appropriate exceptions if necessary.

Then test again.

Permanent full antivirus disablement is not a good default solution.

Fix 10 – Close Overlays and Monitoring Tools

Some startup and anti-cheat problems can involve applications that inject overlays or monitor the game process.

Team17 support has advised affected users in the pinned troubleshooting discussion to close tools such as MSI Afterburner and RTSS and disable overlays when testing certain launcher failures.

Temporarily close:

MSI Afterburner.

RTSS.

Unnecessary overlays.

Third-party hardware monitoring overlays.

Check out some of our most popular WARDOGS services:

Then launch again.

If the problem disappears:

Re-enable applications one at a time.

That helps identify the conflict.

Fix 11 – Disable CPU or GPU Overclocking for Testing

An unstable overclock can produce crashes that look like a broken game or connection failure.

Team17 currently includes disabling CPU/GPU overclocking among its troubleshooting recommendations for players experiencing crashes or failed launches.

Return hardware to stock temporarily.

Test.

If WARDOGS becomes stable:

Your overclock may be unstable under the game's specific workload.

A configuration can appear stable in one game and crash another.

That does not automatically mean WARDOGS is broken.

Fix 12 – Temporarily Cap FPS at 60 When Troubleshooting Crashes

Team17 has suggested a 60 FPS cap as one potential workaround for some current crash cases.

This is not a general recommendation for everyone to play permanently at 60 FPS. It is a diagnostic workaround for players who are currently unable to keep the game stable.

If you are crashing:

Cap 60.

Test.

If stable:

Increase later.

If nothing changes:

Move on.

Do not reduce every graphics setting at the same time or you will not know which change mattered.

Windows Memory Integrity Workaround

Team17 has suggested disabling Memory Integrity in some troubleshooting updates, but this setting is a Windows security protection and should be treated differently from normal graphics or game settings.

The pinned support thread has included instructions to turn Windows Core Isolation Memory Integrity off as a potential workaround for some launcher problems. Team17 also explicitly notes that these are potential workarounds and may not resolve every case.

This deserves caution.

Memory Integrity is a security feature.

Disabling security features is not equivalent to:

Lowering Shadows.

Restarting Steam.

If you choose to test it:

Understand the security tradeoff.

Use only official Windows settings.

Re-enable it when you no longer need the workaround.

If you are uncomfortable changing Windows security:

Do not do it.

Use the lower-risk troubleshooting steps first and contact support.

Avoid Randomly Uninstalling Windows Security Updates

Community fixes are not automatically safe fixes.

Some players have reported resolving particular launcher failures by rolling back Windows updates, but removing security patches can expose the PC to vulnerabilities. Team17's broadly published first-line troubleshooting focuses on file verification, drivers, Elytra repair, restart, alternate network testing, overclock removal, and security-software checks.

Do not make:

“Delete recent Windows security update”

your first response.

Especially if:

The game worked yesterday.

Many players are currently reporting the same outage.

There may be nothing wrong with Windows at all.

Empty WARDOGS Server Browser

An empty server list can come from server-browser trouble, filters, backend availability, or connectivity problems rather than meaning the game has no players.

BULKHEAD has already acknowledged that the server browser needed improvement and delivered Patch 0.11 specifically to improve the browsing experience and community-server discoverability.

If the server browser is empty:

Refresh.

Clear restrictive filters.

Check your region settings.

Restart the browser/game.

Check official announcements.

Check whether other players have the same symptom.

If Steam shows a huge active population while your browser shows zero servers:

There probably are servers.

Something between your client and server discovery is failing.

Getting Kicked Mid-Match

A sudden return to the menu can be server-side, network-side, or local stability-related.

WARDOGS' launch hotfix specifically targeted players being unexpectedly kicked from servers during play, so mid-match removal has historically occurred as a service-side issue. More recent support discussions also show players experiencing freezes that eventually disconnect them, where Team17 has suggested checking both performance and network causes.

If one kick happens:

Reconnect.

If everyone disappears:

Server likely failed or restarted.

If you freeze first and then disconnect:

Could be local system or network instability.

If it happens every match:

Investigate:

Network.

Game files.

Drivers.

Launcher/security.

Overclock.

Performance.

WARDOGS Freezing Before Disconnecting

A freeze followed by disconnection can make a network problem look like a graphics crash.

Recent support reports include players freezing for several seconds and eventually being dropped back to the menu without a normal crash. Team17 has advised checking network conditions in some of these cases.

If this happens:

Monitor FPS.

Monitor packet behavior if possible.

Try another server.

Try Ethernet.

Restart router.

Test hotspot.

If hotspot fixes it:

Network path becomes a stronger suspect.

If the whole PC freezes:

Look harder at:

Drivers.

Overclock.

RAM stability.

Graphics settings.

Steam Can Also Be the Problem

WARDOGS depends on Steam infrastructure, so Steam service problems can affect login, authentication, downloads, or connectivity even when BULKHEAD's own servers are healthy.

Team17 support has directed users experiencing some disconnection issues to check Steam service condition as part of network troubleshooting.

If:

Steam friends fail.

Store becomes unreliable.

Other Steam games also have authentication issues.

WARDOGS may not be the only affected service.

Check Steam before blaming:

Your router.

BULKHEAD.

Your GPU.

Server-Side Problem vs Your PC

The fastest diagnosis comes from comparing your symptoms with what everyone else is experiencing.

A widespread issue produces synchronized symptoms across unrelated players. A local problem normally follows your account, PC, ISP, or network while other players continue normally.

Signs the problem is probably server-side:

Many fresh reports appear simultaneously.

Official announcement acknowledges problems.

Multiple friends in different locations cannot connect.

All servers fail at once.

You were kicked along with many other players.

Login queue suddenly explodes.

Signs the problem may be local:

Friends connect normally.

Only your PC produces a launcher code.

Hotspot works but home internet fails.

Another PC on a different network works.

Your game crashes before reaching login.

Security software logs a blocked process.

Verification repairs damaged files.

This distinction can save hours.

Should You Reinstall WARDOGS?

Reinstallation should come after verification and Elytra repair, not before.

A complete reinstall is time-consuming and unnecessary when the actual problem is a server outage, ISP route, anti-cheat conflict, or one corrupted file that Steam can replace automatically.

Use this order:

Restart.

Check official status.

Verify files.

Repair Elytra.

Update drivers.

Restart PC.

Test network.

Check security software.

Only then consider reinstalling.

If 5,000 other players are posting:

“Servers down”

do not reinstall anything.

What to Do After a New WARDOGS Patch

Connection errors immediately after an update can come from a mismatched client version or the backend restarting around deployment.

Always confirm that Steam completed the latest update before troubleshooting anything deeper. WARDOGS' launch stability hotfix required players to restart, download a new client build, and then return through the login process.

After a patch:

Restart Steam.

Check Downloads.

Verify the game if necessary.

Restart the PC after launcher/anti-cheat updates.

Then reconnect.

Old client + new backend can create misleading errors.

Why WARDOGS Has Had Server Pressure

Early Access launch traffic significantly exceeded a normal small multiplayer launch.

WARDOGS' official Steam announcements thanked players for helping the game reach a peak of more than 400,000 concurrent users around launch, while later announcements celebrated more than two million copies sold. That scale helps explain why authentication, queues, and server-browser systems were put under substantial pressure during the opening days.

This does not excuse connection problems.

But it explains why the launch problems were not simply:

“One broken player's router.”

The infrastructure was dealing with enormous demand.

How to Report a WARDOGS Connection Problem Properly

A useful support report includes the exact error, the stage where it happened, and what you already tested.

Team17 continues to maintain pinned support discussions for launcher and crash problems. Providing precise information helps distinguish WD launcher issues from server join problems or network routing failures.

Include:

Exact error code.

Full WD-L code if present.

Whether the game reaches main menu.

Whether server browser loads.

Whether every server fails.

Whether hotspot works.

Your operating system.

CPU.

GPU.

Driver version.

Whether you verified files.

Whether you repaired Elytra.

Do not report only:

“Game broken.”

More detail creates a better support case.

WARDOGS Server Status FAQ

Is WARDOGS Down Right Now?

As of the September 21, 2026 check used for this article, there is no newly announced global WARDOGS shutdown in the latest official Steam announcements, and Steam's community page shows a large active in-game population. That suggests the game is broadly online, though individual servers, regions, launcher services, or connections can still experience problems.

Where Can I Check WARDOGS Server Status?

Start With the Official Steam Announcements and Developer Support Threads

BULKHEAD and Team17 have used Steam to communicate maintenance, login problems, launch hotfixes, and server-browser updates. There is not currently a simple official component dashboard that should replace those sources.

Why Does WARDOGS Say “Failed to Connect to the Server in a Reasonable Time”?

The Server Join Did Not Complete in Time

This can be caused by service-side instability, overloaded or restarting servers, routing problems, or your own connection. During launch, large numbers of players received the exact message simultaneously, proving that it can definitely occur as a backend problem.

Why Am I Stuck in the WARDOGS Queue?

The Login System May Be Controlling Player Admission

WARDOGS used controlled batches during launch stabilization, so queues can be part of backend traffic management rather than a local error.

What Are WD-L004 and Other WD-L Errors?

They Are Part of a Current Group of Launcher/Startup Problems Team17 Is Investigating

Team17 explicitly lists WD-L004, WD-L006, WD-L007, WD-L010, WD-L014, and WD-L020 among current crash or failed-launch reports.

How Do I Repair Elytra?

Use the Elytra Setup Inside Your WARDOGS Installation Folder

Team17 advises opening the WARDOGS installation directory, finding Elytra, running its setup, and choosing Repair. Restart the PC afterward before testing again.

Should I Verify WARDOGS Files?

Yes

Steam file verification is one of Team17's official first troubleshooting steps for current launcher and crash problems.

Should I Reinstall WARDOGS?

Only After Simpler Troubleshooting

Verify files, repair Elytra, restart the system, check official server status, and test your network first. A reinstall cannot fix a global outage or bad ISP route.

Why Does WARDOGS Work on My Hotspot but Not Home Internet?

Check out some of our most popular WARDOGS services:

That Strongly Suggests the Connection Path Is Involved

Team17 specifically recommends hotspot testing to rule out network-related problems. Current players have also reported WD launcher cases where hotspot connections work while their normal ISP route fails.

Is WARDOGS Still Having Crash Problems?

Team17 Is Still Investigating Several Launcher and Crash Codes

The pinned support thread remains active and names multiple WD-L codes affecting some users. The problem does not affect every player, but it is still officially acknowledged.

Why Is My WARDOGS Server Browser Empty?

It Can Be a Browser, Filter, Backend, Region, or Connection Issue

BULKHEAD already delivered Patch 0.11 specifically to improve server-browser behavior and community-server discoverability, so an empty or inconsistent list should not automatically be blamed on your installation.

Final WARDOGS Server Status and Connection Tips

When WARDOGS stops connecting, the worst first reaction is:

Delete everything.

Reinstall everything.

Change every Windows setting.

Restart router ten times.

Before doing any of that, determine where the failure is happening.

Can WARDOGS launch?

If no:

Think launcher.

Elytra.

Files.

Drivers.

Security.

WD-L error.

Can you reach the main menu?

If yes:

The launcher worked.

Can you see servers?

If no:

Think server browser.

Backend.

Region.

Network.

Can you see servers but none connect?

Think:

Server availability.

Join service.

Routing.

Widespread outage.

Does only one server fail?

Try another.

Do all servers fail?

Check community reports.

Are thousands of other people reporting the same thing?

Stop changing your PC.

The problem is probably not just you.

As of the September 21, 2026 check for this guide, WARDOGS appears broadly online. There is no new official global shutdown announcement in the latest Steam news, while Steam continues to show a very large active player population. That does not guarantee that every server cluster or connection path is healthy, but it means a player who cannot connect today should not automatically assume the entire game is globally offline.

When troubleshooting locally, start with the safe fixes.

Restart WARDOGS and Steam.

Install pending updates.

Verify game files.

Repair Elytra.

Update GPU drivers.

Restart Windows.

Then test your network.

Restart the router.

Use Ethernet.

Try a mobile hotspot temporarily.

That hotspot test is especially valuable.

If WARDOGS works on another provider:

Your game installation is probably much healthier than you thought.

Then check local software.

Firewall.

Antivirus.

Windows Security.

Overlays.

Overclocks.

Team17 currently recommends those areas for players facing the supported WD-L launcher/crash family.

Be more cautious with solutions that weaken Windows security.

Team17 has listed disabling Memory Integrity as a possible workaround in its pinned thread, but that setting exists for a security reason. It should not be treated like changing graphics quality. Use lower-risk troubleshooting first, understand the tradeoff before changing it, and re-enable security protections when possible.

The same caution applies to unofficial advice telling players to uninstall security updates.

One player's workaround is not automatically the correct fix for your machine.

Most importantly:

Do not confuse a WARDOGS outage with a WARDOGS installation problem.

During launch, players across Steam simultaneously received:

Failed connections.

Queue resets.

Server-full messages.

Unexpected kicks.

Login failures.

Those were real infrastructure problems that BULKHEAD and Team17 publicly acknowledged and worked to stabilize.

The exact same error message can appear later for a completely different reason.

That is why diagnosis matters.

Check official status.

Check whether other players are affected.

Identify the stage where your connection fails.

Then troubleshoot only the part that is actually broken.

That approach is faster, safer, and much more likely to get you back into WARDOGS than randomly changing every setting on your PC.

Players who are already back online and want help progressing roles, unlocking equipment and vehicles, or building their cash can also explore WARDOGS services through BoostRoom.
