How Level 99 Works in RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0
All currently released Dragonwilds skills use the same level cap and XP curve.
Level 99 requires 1,000,000 total XP.
The unusual part is how heavily the curve is weighted toward the final levels.
Level 20 – 1,798 total XP
Level 30 – 5,367 total XP
Level 40 – 14,929 total XP
Level 50 – 40,594 total XP
Level 60 – 86,998 total XP
Level 70 – 147,842 total XP
Level 80 – 223,122 total XP
Level 90 – 312,838 total XP
Level 93 – 342,568 total XP
Level 99 – 1,000,000 total XP
That means reaching level 50 uses only a small fraction of the total XP needed for 99.
Even more importantly, going from level 93 to level 99 requires 657,432 XP.
You need more XP for those final six levels than you needed to reach level 93 in the first place.
Jagex deliberately rebalanced the high-level curve before 1.0, making the 92–99 range substantially more demanding.
So there are really two types of leveling in Dragonwilds.
The first is normal progression: unlocking abilities, stronger equipment, spells, regions, storage, and infrastructure.
The second is the dedicated level 99 grind.
You should not treat them the same way.

How to Level Faster Before You Start Grinding
Leveling efficiency begins before the XP farming starts.
The biggest mistake is trying to force level 99 with weak tools, poor storage, limited teleportation, and low-tier gear.
Upgrade Your Tools Before Chasing XP
A stronger tool usually saves more time than a small XP bonus.
Mining and Woodcutting are particularly dependent on tool power.
Dragonwilds does not simply say, "You are Mining level 70, therefore you can mine this ore." Your pickaxe or logging axe also determines which resource tiers you can efficiently access.
Version 1.0 pushes that progression further with resources such as Runite Ore, Luminite Ore, and Magic Wood.
Runite and Luminite require an Adamant Pickaxe or better, while Magic Wood requires a Rune Logging Axe or better.
Do not spend hundreds of thousands of XP using outdated equipment if a tool upgrade is within reach.
Build Your Storage Before Bulk Farming
High-level training generates mountains of materials.
A badly organized base turns XP grinding into inventory management.
Dragonwilds now provides multiple systems that make mass leveling easier, including specialized storage, Personal Chest access, and the Storage Ledger added with 1.0.
Use them.
Your goal should be to gather for as long as possible before being forced to stop.
Every unnecessary return to base reduces your real XP per hour.
Use XP Boosts During Dedicated Sessions
Several non-combat and artisan skills can benefit from combinations of:
Inspiring skill equipment. These provide a skill-specific XP increase while worn and are especially valuable during the enormous level 93–99 grind.
Knowledgeable Nourishment. Certain foods provide a general XP bonus and can be combined with an appropriate skill potion.
Focused skill potions. Depending on the tier, these can provide substantial skill-specific XP gains and are best saved for prepared bulk-training sessions.
Do not waste expensive boosts while sorting chests or walking between regions.
Prepare everything first. Then activate the buffs when you are ready to continuously earn XP.
Also remember that foods do not freely stack with other foods, and potions do not freely stack with other potions. Use one strong option from each relevant category instead of consuming several and assuming the percentages all combine.
Train Skills in Connected Loops
This is the most important leveling rule in Dragonwilds.
Do not:
Mine → dump ore → forget about it.
Instead:
Mine → process ore → craft equipment or components → gain Artisan XP.
Do not:
Fish → throw fish into storage forever.
Instead:
Fish → cook the catch → gain Cooking XP.
Your gathering grind should constantly supply your artisan grind.
Mining Leveling 1–99
Mining is one of the best skills to level alongside normal progression because its materials remain valuable throughout the game.
Mining XP comes from breaking ore, stone, clay, and other mineable resources.
Unlike traditional RuneScape, your Mining level alone does not decide whether you can mine a resource. The strength of your pickaxe matters enormously.
That means your fastest method keeps changing as stronger equipment and harder regions become available.
Fastest Mining Method
Use the strongest pickaxe available to you and focus on the highest-value ore routes you can survive efficiently.
Do not stay in an endgame region simply because the ore is technically stronger if you spend half the session healing, fighting enemies, or searching for depleted rocks.
Density beats prestige.
A route with several nearby ore nodes and almost no downtime can outperform a more dangerous route with better individual rocks.
Useful Mining milestones include Rocksplosion, Gem Prospector, Summon Stone Spirits, Ore & Stone Storage, Divine Rock, and Accelerated Veins.
Divine Rock becomes particularly interesting at high levels because it allows ore to be converted into a personal mining vein.
Mining in Dragonwilds 1.0
The Scorned Wilderness adds Runite Ore and Luminite Ore, both requiring an Adamant Pickaxe or stronger.
These are valuable not only for Mining progression but for the Rune-tier crafting economy.
That makes late-game Mining especially efficient when you still need materials for equipment.
Do not grind low-value rocks just for XP if you can gain similar experience while gathering materials you actually need.
Woodcutting Leveling 1–99
Woodcutting becomes much faster once you stop running between random trees.
The skill is ideal for controlled farming because trees can be integrated with your base and resource production.
Fastest Woodcutting Method
Dense planted tree layouts are one of the strongest leveling setups because they reduce travel between targets.
Use several trees close together, then rotate your Woodcutting spells and manual chopping.
Axtral Projection becomes especially useful because it can cut at range, while later upgrades improve its area coverage.
Splinter helps process fallen trees, and Trunk Totem gives you another way to manipulate nearby trees.
Your best logging axe should always be equipped.
The 1.0 endgame extends the tool ladder with the Rune Logging Axe, which is required for Magic Wood.
Why Level 88 Matters
Version 1.0 moved Wood Weight Reduction to level 88, where it reduces wood carry weight by 50%.
The upgraded Axtral Projection also becomes available at that level, producing multiple spectral axes.
This makes the late Woodcutting grind noticeably more comfortable.
By then, the goal is simple:
keep chopping time high and travel time low.
Send the resulting logs and planks into Artisan or Construction rather than leaving thousands of them unused.
Farming Leveling 1–99
Farming rewards scale.
A tiny garden works for survival.
A large farming operation works for leveling.
Farming begins through the Growing Pains progression and revolves around preparing plots, planting seeds, watering crops, using compost, curing disease, and harvesting.
Fastest Farming Method
Watering healthy crops in strong plots is one of the core Farming XP sources.
The more plots you can handle efficiently, the more useful your farming cycle becomes.
Do not plant massive fields if you cannot maintain them. Diseased, neglected crops turn a leveling method into wasted materials.
Use the best plot tier available, keep clean water ready, and use compost appropriately.
Humidify becomes increasingly valuable because it reduces the amount of manual watering needed across larger farms.
Combine Farming With Cooking
This is where Farming becomes much more efficient.
Do not sell, discard, or endlessly store harvests if you still need Cooking XP.
Move your crops directly into your cooking operation.
One farming session can therefore progress Farming, supply food for combat, and prepare the materials needed for Cooking 99.
Fishing Leveling 1–99
Fishing is more active than simply clicking a resource node, especially when using rods.
You can use nets and fishing rods, with different fish, bait requirements, and fishing locations across Ashenfall.
Fastest Fishing Method
For pure leveling, target fish that provide strong XP without creating excessive travel or long catch times.
The highest power-level fish is not automatically the best XP target.
For example, current live data shows that individual fish can have very different XP rewards even within similar power levels.
Raw Desert Sole is among the highest recorded Fishing XP catches, while Raw Armoured Catfish also provides strong XP despite being a lower power-level fish.
The practical rule is:
measure catches per minute, not just XP per fish.
Use the strongest rod appropriate for your region, bring the necessary bait, and keep your route compact.
Fishing Frenzy improves fish output, Fishnado provides burst gathering, and the level 70 Angler-related unlocks further improve long sessions.
Do Not Ignore Storage
Fish are heavy.
Fishing sessions become inefficient if your character is constantly forced home.
Weight-reduction perks, dedicated fish storage, and Personal Chest access are extremely useful for serious Fishing leveling.
Then send the catch to Cooking.
Fishing is much easier to justify when every inventory of fish becomes progress in another skill.
Artisan Leveling 1–99
Artisan is one of the most important skills to integrate with everything else.
It covers a huge amount of the game's crafting and processing work.
Weapons, armor, components, processed resources, leather, cloth, metalworking, and multiple crafting stations all feed Artisan progression.
Fastest Artisan Method
Bulk processing is better than repeatedly crafting tiny batches.
Gather a large stockpile first.
Then move through your production line with XP boosts active.
Use several relevant processing stations so you are not standing around waiting for one machine.
Version 1.0 makes this approach stronger through Overdrive, which increases processing speed for mechanical stations.
Superheat serves a similar purpose for compatible heat-based processing.
When you combine them, your base starts functioning like a real production line rather than a collection of isolated benches.
Use the Storage Ledger
The Storage Ledger is one of the best quality-of-life additions for players leveling several skills.
It automatically files items into linked chests when those items already have stacks there.
That means less time opening dozens of containers after each gathering run.
For Artisan, this matters because the skill consumes materials from nearly everywhere in the game.
Mining, Woodcutting, Farming, monster farming, boss drops, and Scorned Wilderness resources can all end up passing through your crafting area.
The faster you can unload and process those materials, the faster Artisan climbs.
Construction Leveling 1–99
Construction works differently from many other skills because you cannot endlessly rebuild the same object for free XP.
Building, repairing, and Construction Skill Tomes contribute to the skill.
Fastest Construction Method
Focus on new legitimate building placements using cheap, easy-to-farm materials.
Do not build something, destroy it, and expect the same object to provide endless XP when reconstructed.
The game prevents that simple repeat-placement exploit until the world resets.
Instead, create useful infrastructure.
Expand your base.
Add production areas.
Build storage.
Create farming space.
Establish practical outposts.
You need the structures anyway, so take the XP while improving your world.
Important Construction Unlock
One of the most valuable milestones is Personal Chest at Construction level 40.
This dramatically improves long gathering sessions because you can access personal storage remotely through the spell.
For anyone planning multiple level 99 gathering skills, that convenience is difficult to overstate.
Construction may not feel like the fastest skill at first, but the infrastructure it unlocks makes nearly every later grind easier.
Runecrafting Leveling 1–99
Runecrafting is one of the most mechanical skills in Dragonwilds, but it becomes extremely rewarding once you understand the difference between manual Attuning and Auto Crafting.
Fastest Runecrafting Method
If XP is your goal, use Attuning rather than Auto Crafting.
Auto Crafting is faster in real-world interaction time, but it provides only part of the XP you can earn through properly Attuning and Infusing runes.
Manual Attuning provides full XP.
Your rune progression is:
Air → Astral → Water → Earth → Fire → Nature → Law.
The strongest simple leveling rule is to craft the newest rune you have unlocked, assuming you can sustain the Rune Essence cost.
Law Runes become the main high-level training option after level 50.
Siphon Anima Vents While Traveling
Anima Vents provide another source of Runecrafting XP and runes.
Do not walk past them during exploration if you are carrying essence.
Later Runecrafting unlocks make these vents increasingly useful, especially when concentrated vents become easier to identify.
Prepare Rune Essence in Bulk
The worst way to train Runecrafting is:
craft a small amount → run out of essence → leave → mine → return → repeat.
Instead, build a large Rune Essence reserve first.
Then activate your XP buffs and stay at the altar.
This is especially important during the 93–99 climb, where the XP requirement becomes enormous.
Cooking Leveling 1–99
Cooking is unusually straightforward because many actions use flat XP values.
Current live mechanics award fixed XP amounts for cooking ingredients, meals, and drinks rather than simply giving more XP because an ingredient has a higher power level.
Fastest Cooking Method
The best Cooking ingredient is often the one you can obtain in the largest quantity with the least effort.
That matters more than its prestige.
If one cheap ingredient can be bought or farmed by the thousands, it can outperform a rare endgame ingredient that requires constant gathering.
At higher progression, Garou merchant ingredients can provide a bulk-buy route for players with enough Garou Chits.
Players who do not have a huge currency reserve should instead use the enormous amount of food generated by Farming and Fishing.
Understand Burning
Cooking has several Culinary Confidence tiers.
Higher Cooking levels reduce the chance to burn stronger ingredients, eventually removing burning entirely for the appropriate power level.
Trying to power-level with food that burns constantly is inefficient.
Use ingredients your current Cooking level can process reliably.
When stronger food becomes safer, upgrade.
Attack Leveling 1–99
Attack is one of the simplest skills conceptually.
Deal melee damage.
Get Attack XP.
The crucial detail is that Attack XP scales with the damage you deal, so stronger weapons directly improve leveling speed.
Fastest Attack Method
Upgrade your weapon before you begin a long grind.
Then fight enemies that have enough health to let you deal sustained damage without creating huge downtime between kills.
Bosses and valuable monster farms are usually better choices than weak starter enemies because you can combine Attack XP with useful drops.
The Black Knight Titan remains a popular repeatable combat target when your gear is strong enough to kill it efficiently.
Do not force that target if each kill consumes excessive food and repair materials.
A slightly weaker enemy you destroy quickly may produce better real XP per hour.
Use 1.0 Combat Improvements
Version 1.0 expanded melee combat with Sprint Attacks and changed Special Attacks to use a dedicated recharging bar.
Successful parries also restore a large portion of maximum stamina and can open a Visceral Attack opportunity.
These systems matter for leveling because they reduce downtime and increase your damage output when played correctly.
Better combat execution means faster Attack XP.
Magic Leveling 1–99
Magic has one additional problem that Attack does not:
every training session consumes runes.
That means Magic leveling is really two grinds unless you prepare correctly.
Fastest Magic Method
Stockpile runes before starting.
Then use your strongest available staff or wand against enemies you can repeatedly defeat with minimal downtime.
Do not interrupt every combat session because you ran out of Fire, Water, or Air Runes.
Runecrafting first can save a huge amount of frustration later.
Magic also receives Runic Refund, giving attacks a chance to preserve runes.
This becomes extremely valuable across the hundreds of thousands of XP needed for the high-level grind.
Wands vs Staves
Version 1.0 introduced wands.
Wands offer more mobility and let you cast while moving, while staves remain the heavier burst-damage option.
For leveling, there is no universal answer.
Use whichever weapon produces the best sustained damage against your chosen target.
A theoretical damage increase means nothing if you repeatedly miss opportunities because you are forced to reposition.
Ranged Leveling 1–99
Ranged follows the same central rule as melee:
more effective damage means faster XP.
The difference is ammunition.
Every long Ranged session needs preparation.
Fastest Ranged Method
Bring enough arrows or bolts to stay in combat for a long period.
Use the strongest weapon and ammunition setup you can sustain.
Target enemy weak points whenever practical, especially with proper Ranged armor bonuses.
Ranged becomes much easier to push once you stop treating ammunition as something to craft after every few fights.
Prepare a large stockpile first.
Then grind.
Ranged in Version 1.0
The 1.0 endgame expands ranged progression through equipment such as Black Dragonhide, Magic bows, and the Rune Crossbow.
Level 60 also improves the chance for enchanted crossbow bolts to activate their effects.
Spectral Arrows were improved for longer duration, making them easier to maintain during sustained combat.
These upgrades give high-level Ranged players far better training tools than early-game bows.
Agility Leveling 1–99
Agility works differently because simply moving through Ashenfall can contribute to progression.
However, the fastest dedicated training comes from the Agility courses.
Fastest Agility Method
Run the highest course you can complete consistently at a strong medal pace.
Dragonwilds currently contains six Agility courses.
Higher-level courses provide stronger XP opportunities, but failing obstacles or repeatedly missing the best completion tier reduces the advantage.
A lower course completed cleanly can be more efficient than a higher course where every lap goes badly.
Agility also gains passive XP through running on foot.
Mounted movement does not provide the same passive training.
That means players who ride everywhere may reach the endgame with surprisingly low Agility.
Why Agility Is Worth Leveling Early
Agility provides far more than a Skill Cape.
Its progression includes movement options such as Windstep, Double Jump, Air Dash, better fall handling, Kebbit Burrow access, and significant carry-weight improvements.
Those carry-weight perks indirectly make Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, Runecrafting, and general resource farming easier.
This is why Agility is one of the best skills to allow to level naturally while you work on everything else.
Best Skills to Prioritize Before the Level 99 Grind
You do not need to max the skills in one fixed order.
However, some skills make other 99s considerably easier.
Mining and Woodcutting
These supply a huge percentage of the materials used elsewhere.
Strong tools and gathering perks also make resource preparation much easier.
Construction
Personal Chest access and better base infrastructure reduce downtime on almost every gathering skill.
Runecrafting
Rune production supports Magic and a large collection of utility spells.
Reaching Law Runes is particularly important for travel and storage-related abilities.
Artisan
Artisan turns all those raw materials into equipment and gives you processing tools such as Superheat and Overdrive.
Agility
Movement and carry-weight improvements quietly save time on almost every trip you make.
You do not need these skills at 99 before touching the others. You simply want their useful unlocks before committing hundreds of thousands of XP to a grind.
Biggest Leveling Mistakes to Avoid
Grinding Level 99 Too Early
A character with poor tools, no teleport network, limited storage, and weak gear will spend more time preparing than earning XP.
Progress first.
Optimize second.
Max later.
Training Only One Skill at a Time
Mining without using the ore is wasted Artisan potential.
Fishing without cooking is wasted Cooking potential.
Woodcutting without Construction or processing is wasted material value.
Always ask what the output of one skill can do for another.
Ignoring the Level 93–99 XP Wall
This is where many players underestimate the grind.
Level 93 looks close to 99.
It is not.
You still need more than 650,000 XP.
Save your best leveling setup, XP boosts, large resource stockpiles, and optimized routes for this section.
Using Weak Equipment Because It Is Cheap
Repairing or replacing stronger equipment may cost more resources, but high-tier tools and weapons usually save far more time.
Leveling is a time problem.
Treat equipment as an investment in faster XP.
Copying Old Early Access Guides
Dragonwilds changed heavily before and during 1.0.
The level cap changed.
The XP curve changed.
New skills arrived.
Skill trees expanded.
New equipment tiers appeared.
Mining and Woodcutting gained additional endgame tools and resources.
Combat mechanics changed.
Always make sure a leveling method still works in the live 1.0 build before committing hours to it.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 Leveling FAQ
How many skills are currently playable?
RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 currently has 12 trainable skills: Attack, Magic, Ranged, Mining, Woodcutting, Farming, Fishing, Artisan, Construction, Runecrafting, Cooking, and Agility.
What is the maximum skill level?
The current maximum is level 99 for every live skill.
How much XP is needed for level 99?
You need 1,000,000 total XP in a skill to reach level 99.
Is level 50 halfway to 99?
No.
Level 50 requires only 40,594 XP, which is a small fraction of the one million XP needed for level 99.
Why does leveling become so slow after level 93?
The upper XP curve was deliberately rebalanced. Level 93 requires 342,568 total XP, while level 99 requires one million.
That means the final six levels require 657,432 additional XP.
What is the fastest overall leveling strategy?
Use stronger tools and weapons, minimize travel, prepare materials in bulk, activate XP buffs during continuous training, and combine skills wherever possible.
There is no single "best skill" to train because the fastest method depends on your current regions, gear, resources, and unlocked infrastructure.
Does Prayer count for this guide?
No. Prayer is not currently one of the playable 1.0 skills, so it should not be included in a live 1–99 leveling route yet.
Do Skill Capes unlock at 99?
Yes. Each live skill has a level 99 mastery reward associated with its Skill Cape progression.
Conclusion
RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 makes maxing a character a genuine endgame project.
The early levels are not the difficult part.
The challenge is building an account that can survive the final XP climb efficiently.
Upgrade your tools before grinding gathering skills. Build enough storage that your inventory is not constantly interrupting you. Turn Mining and Woodcutting materials into Artisan and Construction XP. Feed Farming and Fishing into Cooking. Build Rune Essence reserves before Magic sessions. Prepare ammunition before Ranged grinding. Run Agility courses and travel on foot when movement XP makes sense.
Above all, remember the real rule behind fast leveling:
reduce wasted actions.
The player who spends less time traveling, sorting inventory, replacing supplies, and farming unnecessary materials will reach level 99 much faster than the player who simply grinds harder.
And if you would rather spend your time exploring Ashenfall, building your character, or fighting endgame bosses instead of repeating the longest leveling grinds, BoostRoom can help you progress faster.
