PoE 2 Forbidden Rites Endgame Guide – Maps, Bosses & Progression

The PoE 2 Forbidden Rites endgame in Patch 0.5.5 revolves around pushing Waystones through the Atlas, unlocking the Precursor Fortress, defeating the Arbiter of Ash and Arbiter of Divinity, opening specialized Atlas trees, and then choosing which endgame mechanics and pinnacle bosses you want to farm.

Understanding the PoE 2 Endgame Atlas

The Atlas is the foundation of Path of Exile 2's endgame.

You begin near the Ziggurat Refuge and expand outward by completing Maps with Waystones. As more of the Atlas is revealed, you discover major quest hubs connected to Ritual, Breach, Abyss, Delirium, Expedition, Vaal Temple content, the Precursor Fortress, and the three Atlas Masters.

Waystones Determine Map Difficulty

Waystone Tier controls one of the most important difficulty jumps in the entire endgame.

Current 0.5.5 progression uses the following broad map ranges:

  • White Maps – Tier 1 to Tier 5

    These are the introductory endgame Maps. Your main priority here is learning your build's weaknesses, building a Waystone pool, improving basic gear, and reaching important Atlas objectives.

  • Yellow Maps – Tier 6 to Tier 10

    Enemy damage begins becoming much less forgiving. This is where poor resistances, weak recovery, and outdated weapons start becoming obvious.

  • Red Maps – Tier 11 to Tier 15

    These are the serious endgame Maps where builds need proper defensive layers, meaningful damage scaling, and more reliable gear.

  • Tier 16 Maps

    Corrupting a Tier 15 Waystone with a Vaal Orb can potentially turn it into Tier 16 content. Current 0.5.5 progression guides place T16 inside the red-map endgame bracket.

Do not push into a higher tier simply because you possess the Waystone.

If Tier 12 takes twice as long as Tier 10 and causes repeated deaths, you may gain more character power by temporarily farming the tier you can clear efficiently.

Progression is about sustainable difficulty, not simply reaching the highest number visible.

Waystone Sustain Is Part of Progression

One of the earliest Atlas problems is running out of maps at the tier you want.

That is why Waystone sustain matters almost as much as raw damage.

Powerful Map Bosses Matter

Current 0.5.5 Atlas progression guidance notes that Powerful Map Bosses can drop Waystones one tier higher than the one being run. This makes boss-marked Maps particularly useful when you are trying to climb into the next Waystone bracket.

A practical approach is:

  • Use stronger Waystones on valuable boss nodes.

    If a Map contains a Powerful Map Boss or an important progression objective, that is usually a better place to spend one of your highest-tier Waystones than on an unimportant travel node.

  • Keep travel Maps efficient.

    Maps that exist mainly to connect you to another objective do not always need maximum investment.

  • Use Reforging when your Waystone pool becomes uneven.

    Current endgame guidance notes that three lower-tier Maps can be reforged into a higher-tier Waystone. That makes excess lower-tier maps useful instead of dead inventory.

The idea is simple:

Save your strongest map resources for nodes that actually advance your character.

The Atlas Passive Tree Is Your Endgame Power System

The Atlas Passive Tree was heavily reworked in Patch 0.5.

Unlike your character Passive Tree, Atlas passives change the content you encounter and how rewarding or dangerous that content becomes.

There are hundreds of points and enough flexibility that players can eventually build highly specialized farming setups.

Early Atlas Points Should Help You Progress

The strongest early Atlas node is not always the strongest late-game farming node.

Early in progression, you care about things such as:

  • Waystone sustain;

  • more useful bosses;

  • manageable map difficulty;

  • extra access to mechanics that improve your gear;

  • reaching the next progression gate.

Later, you may care more about:

  • Item Rarity;

  • monster effectiveness;

  • additional mechanic density;

  • more Tablets;

  • stronger league rewards;

  • harder but more rewarding bosses.

That difference matters.

Building a maximum-profit Atlas while your character cannot sustain maps or survive the content often slows progression rather than accelerating it.

The Precursor Fortress Is the Core Atlas Progression Hub

The Precursor Fortress is one of the most important structures in the 0.5 endgame.

This is where the core Legacy of the Precursors progression develops and where major Atlas Passive Points become available.

Patch 0.5.5 makes this process significantly easier once you reach the repeatable version of the Arbiter of Divinity.

Entering the Fortress

The Fortress appears as part of the main endgame progression around the Ancient Gateway and Origin Tower region.

Within the Fortress you will encounter:

  • gateways;

  • Enigma Chambers;

  • the Burning Monolith;

  • Patriarch Halls;

  • Matriarch Halls;

  • the Origin Tower;

  • the Arbiter of Ash;

  • the Arbiter of Divinity.

Maps inside the Fortress also contribute toward your primary Atlas Passive Tree progression.

This is why the Fortress should not be treated as just another optional mechanic.

It is part of building the power of your entire Atlas.

Arbiter of Ash Progression

The Arbiter of Ash remains an important core endgame boss, although Patch 0.5 moved the overall endgame focus toward the Arbiter of Divinity.

Before fighting the Arbiter of Ash during the main progression, you need the Crisis Fragment pieces associated with the Enigma Chambers.

The Enigma Chambers Matter

Current 0.5.5 progression directs players through the Eastern and Western parts of the Fortress before reaching the Burning Monolith.

The relevant Enigma Chamber bosses provide the quest fragments required to continue.

Patch 0.5.5c added an important requirement:

You must actually be present when the Eastern and Western Enigma Chamber bosses die to collect the Ancient Crisis Fragment and Weathered Crisis Fragment.

GGG introduced this requirement while fixing a Legacy of the Precursors progression blocker.

Do not have another player kill the boss while you remain outside the encounter and assume the quest item will be available afterward.

Arbiter of Ash Resistance Changed

Patch 0.5.5 also changed the Arbiter of Ash's elemental profile.

The boss no longer has general resistance to all elements. Instead, the Arbiter of Ash now has Fire Resistance and Cold Vulnerability.

That can noticeably change how different builds experience the fight.

A cold-based character may perform considerably better than expected.

A fire-heavy build may need to rely more heavily on penetration, exposure, curses, or sheer damage.

This does not mean you should rebuild your character for one boss.

It means boss resistance profiles should be considered when evaluating why your damage suddenly feels weaker or stronger.

Arbiter of Divinity and the Origin Core

The Arbiter of Divinity is the central pinnacle encounter of the current core Atlas progression.

Reaching the boss requires the Origin Spark and Origin Cradle, obtained through the Patriarch and Matriarch Halls. These are used with the Origin system to reach the Arbiter encounter.

Patriarch and Matriarch Halls

These Halls are major progression objectives, not ordinary Maps.

In the current 0.5.5 structure:

  • the Patriarch Hall provides the Origin Spark;

  • the Matriarch Hall provides the Origin Cradle.

Patch 0.5.5 also changed the Atlas so these Halls can appear closer to the Ziggurat Refuge than before, making repeat progression less tedious.

Patch 0.5.5c added another important rule:

You must be present when the relevant bosses die to receive the Spark or Cradle.

That is particularly important for party play.

Arbiter of Divinity Resistance

The Arbiter of Divinity also received a resistance change in 0.5.5.

Instead of universal elemental resistance, the boss now has Lightning Resistance and Fire Vulnerability.

Lightning builds should therefore pay attention to resistance reduction and exposure when preparing for the encounter.

Fire builds have a naturally more favorable matchup.

Again, this is not about choosing a build purely around one boss.

It is about understanding why endgame boss performance can differ dramatically from map-clear damage.

Why the Second Arbiter of Divinity Kill Matters

Patch 0.5.5 contains one of the most important quality-of-life improvements to the entire core endgame.

Defeating the Arbiter of Divinity with the non-quest Origin Core now completes the entire Precursor Fortress for the Map owner.

That allows you to allocate the remaining main Atlas Passive Tree more freely instead of manually clearing every unfinished section of the Fortress.

Current 0.5.5 community progression guides therefore treat the repeat Arbiter of Divinity encounter as the major point where the core Atlas becomes fully unlocked.

This is a huge improvement because it changes the purpose of the Fortress.

Before that repeat completion, the Fortress is progression.

Afterward, your Atlas becomes much more about specialization.

Forbidden Rites Changes Endgame Ritual

Ritual is the signature mechanic of the Forbidden Rites event, and its importance does not disappear after the campaign.

In endgame Maps, Ritual becomes a major source of specialized rewards and access to the Viridian Wildwood.

Sacred Blooms Unlock the Viridian Wildwood

Sacred Blooms are exclusive to Forbidden Rites.

They can appear as Ritual rewards and can add the Viridian Wildwood to a cluster of Maps on your Atlas.

Inside the Wildwood, you collect trails of Azmeri Wisps.

When you leave the Wildwood, those Wisps empower monsters in the Map, making them more powerful and more rewarding.

This creates an important endgame scaling system.

The Wildwood is not simply a separate mini-zone.

It changes the content you are already running.

That means a well-built map containing valuable mechanics can become considerably more rewarding once its monsters are empowered.

Multiple Ritual Tablets Scale Wildwood Investment

Using more than one Ritual Tablet now has additional benefits.

Patch 0.5.5 allows multiple Ritual Tablets to add another Ritual Altar to a Map where possible, while also increasing the amount of Azmeri Wisps available inside the Viridian Wildwood.

This creates a natural high-end progression path for Ritual players.

You can begin with simple Ritual farming.

Then increase Ritual investment.

Then add Sacred Blooms.

Then push heavier Wildwood empowerment when your character becomes capable of handling it.

Do not jump directly to maximum Wisp investment simply because the rewards are better.

The monsters become stronger too.

The Ritual Pinnacle Path

Ritual also has its own endgame quest chain.

The Ritual hub is Caer Tarth, located around the southwest side of the Atlas starting region. The Legacy of the Maji progression eventually takes you through the King in the Mists and then toward a more advanced Ritual boss chain.

King in the Mists

To access the King in the Mists, players work toward an Audience With the King.

After defeating him, he drops the Head of the King, which is used back at the Caer Tarth Effigy to begin the Rite of the Nameless progression.

The key lesson is that Ritual does not stop at ordinary Altars.

It has a complete endgame path.

Rite of the Nameless and Bodach

The Rite of the Nameless creates a linked chain of Maps containing Ritual encounters.

Monsters from earlier parts of the chain can carry forward into later Rituals, including bosses, making these encounters much more dangerous than normal Ritual farming.

Completing the body-part collection allows you to perform the final Rite of the Nameless and reach Bodach, the true Ritual pinnacle boss.

If your build clears ordinary Ritual comfortably but struggles badly here, the problem is usually one of three things:

  • insufficient single-target damage;

  • insufficient defenses;

  • inability to deal damage while moving.

These Ritual chains are particularly good at exposing builds that only look strong in ordinary maps.

Breach Endgame Progression

Breach remains one of the major endgame mechanics.

The dedicated hub is the Monastery of the Keepers, south of the Ziggurat Refuge. Completing Breach Maps around the hub grants Breach Atlas progression.

Breach Strongholds and Xesht

Breach farming eventually leads into stronger Breach content.

Breach Splinters contribute toward access items and Breach Strongholds, where players can encounter powerful Breach bosses and acquire a Breachlord Sac.

That Sac can then be used to access the Twisted Domain and fight Xesht, We That Are One.

Breach is ideal for characters with:

  • excellent clear speed;

  • strong area coverage;

  • good movement;

  • the ability to kill many enemies quickly.

It is less comfortable for builds whose damage requires long setup times.

Patch 0.5.5 also changed Unstable Breach behavior so Rare Monsters spawn in waves of five while stabilizing rather than appearing all at once.

Abyss and Large Abyssal Ravines

Abyss receives one of the most visible Atlas additions in Forbidden Rites.

Large Abyssal Ravines can now appear throughout the Atlas, and Maps positioned on those ravines are guaranteed to contain Abysses.

This makes Abyss much easier to target geographically.

The Abyss Questline

The primary Abyss hub is the Well of Souls, east of the Ziggurat Refuge.

Its quest progression leads through multiple Abyss paths and bosses, eventually reaching higher-tier encounters connected to the Vessel of Kulemac.

The broader Abyss system includes:

  • Abyss Pits;

  • Abyssal Depths;

  • Lightless Void;

  • Dark Domain;

  • Tasgul;

  • Vandroth;

  • the Vessel of Kulemac.

Abyss tends to favor builds with excellent sustained clear and enough defenses to survive dense monster spawning.

Patch 0.5.5 also improved the Ghastly Relics Atlas Passive so it applies to all Large Abyssal Chests from Pits rather than only the final chest.

That makes completing the encounter more rewarding instead of placing nearly all value in one final chest.

Delirium and the Withered Willow

Delirium remains one of the most dangerous forms of map scaling.

The associated endgame hub is The Withered Willow, southwest of the starting region.

Delirium Maps provide Liquid Emotions, Simulacrum Splinters, Atlas progression, and access to increasingly difficult fog-covered content.

Delirium Becomes Harder as You Go Deeper

The Delirium system encourages players to continue deeper into fog while monsters become progressively more difficult.

Map bosses encountered under Delirium can reach maximum Deliriousness, meaning a normally manageable boss may suddenly become significantly harder.

This makes Delirium one of the mechanics you should avoid over-investing into before your build is ready.

Simulacrum and Tangmazu

Current endgame progression eventually leads through increasingly Delirious Maps into the Simulacrum of Delusion.

Completing that progression can provide the Raven's Reflection used to reach Tangmazu, the final Delirium boss.

Delirium is usually much more comfortable once your character has:

  • strong recovery;

  • high sustained damage;

  • reliable defenses against repeated hits;

  • enough movement to stay inside the fog.

If normal Maps already feel dangerous, heavy Delirium is usually premature.

Expedition Is Now Core Endgame Content

Expedition was integrated into the core game with Patch 0.5.5.

Farrow, Dannig, and Expedition can now appear on the Atlas, while Expedition encounters can begin appearing from Act 4 onward.

This means Forbidden Rites players can build full Expedition endgame strategies instead of treating the mechanic as content exclusive to Runes of Aldur.

Expedition Tablets Scale Quickly

Patch 0.5.5 gives Expedition Tablets stacking bonuses.

Using multiple Tablets can add:

  • Kalguuran Expeditions;

  • Verisium Remnants;

  • additional Expedition density;

  • another Expedition encounter;

  • more Remnant and Monster Flag opportunities.

High-density Expedition can become extremely dangerous because Remnants can create combinations that directly counter specific builds.

Always read the modifiers.

A rewarding Expedition is not worth much if you accidentally make its monsters effectively unkillable for your damage type.

Grand Expedition Bosses

Endgame Expedition includes boss progression involving major figures such as:

  • Medved;

  • Vorana;

  • Uhtred;

  • Olroth.

The associated quest path centers around the ruined Kingsmarch region and Grand Expeditions.

This gives Expedition both a mapping identity and a bossing identity.

Vaal Temple and Atziri

The Vaal Temple remains another major endgame progression system.

Players collect Energised Crystals and use the Temple's grid system to construct connected rooms, increase difficulty, unlock reward rooms, and eventually reach Atziri.

Building the Temple Matters

The Temple is not simply a Map with a boss at the end.

You construct the layout.

Rooms can contain specialized rewards such as:

  • currency;

  • Lineage Supports;

  • high-level Runes;

  • Unique items;

  • Tablet interactions;

  • special crafting functions.

The more carefully you build the route, the more value you can extract.

Atziri, the Red Queen

Reaching Atziri requires defeating the Vaal Architect and unlocking the Royal Access Chamber before connecting your path toward Atziri's Chamber.

Defeating Atziri provides Atlas progression and access to specialized Temple rewards.

Atziri is therefore not merely a boss encounter.

She sits at the top of an entire build-your-own-dungeon progression system.

Masters of the Atlas

Patch 0.5 introduced three Atlas Masters:

Hilda, Doryani, and Jado.

Each has a small specialized Atlas tree with four obtainable points. They function almost like Ascendancies for your Atlas, letting you modify how your endgame behaves.

Hilda – Boss and Monster Focus

Hilda's Hunting emphasizes Unique Monsters, Azmeri Spirits, Rare Monsters, and boss-related content.

Her progression involves hunting Great Beasts at increasing Waystone requirements.

This Master is especially appealing if your build is strong at bossing.

Doryani – Utility and Corruption

Doryani's Science offers broader utility and progression support.

You unlock the tree by clearing Corrupted Nexus content, with further progression eventually leading toward the Immured Fury encounter.

Patch 0.5.5 also made Corrupted Nexus Maps retryable when they had previously failed and fixed situations where boss respawning could interfere with the Corrupted Boss.

That makes this Master progression less punishing than before.

Jado – Strongboxes, Anomalies and Map Manipulation

Jado focuses on Anomaly Maps, Strongboxes, and more unusual Atlas manipulation.

Finding and completing Anomaly Maps unlocks additional parts of Jado's Spycraft tree.

These Master trees provide another reason not to think of endgame progression as a straight line.

Your character can eventually tailor the Atlas around the type of content you enjoy.

Trial of Chaos Is Now Better Endgame Content

Trial of Chaos received one of the largest updates in Forbidden Rites.

You can now leave a run and resume from the same room later.

Every room provides a reward chest.

Completed runs reward Currency and Soul Cores instead of random corrupted items.

Difficulty modifiers also increase the quality of drops from monsters.

Extended Trial Runs

Completing a ten-Trial Inscribed Ultimatum allows you to continue without supplying another Ultimatum.

This can happen twice.

Each additional successful segment can award another Trialmaster Fragment, while the existing modifiers and reward quality continue into the harder run.

That effectively lets experienced players push deeper into increasingly dangerous versions of the same Trial.

Do not confuse available difficulty with mandatory difficulty.

If the current modifier combination is already dangerous for your build, continuing purely because the next reward is better can turn a profitable run into a failed one.

Preparing Your Character for Serious Endgame Bosses

A character that clears T15 Maps is not automatically ready for every pinnacle encounter.

Bossing tests different parts of a build.

Damage Must Work While Moving

Real boss DPS is the damage you can deliver while surviving mechanics.

A theoretical setup that requires several uninterrupted seconds of casting may look incredible on a planner and perform poorly in a mobile fight.

Pinnacle encounters reward:

  • persistent damage;

  • damage over time;

  • quick burst windows;

  • minion uptime;

  • projectiles that continue working while you reposition.

This is one reason many strong Forbidden Rites starters emphasize mobility instead of stationary damage.

Recovery Matters as Much as Maximum Defense

Avoiding one attack is not enough if the next one arrives before your Life or Energy Shield recovers.

Make sure your build has a real recovery system.

That may be:

  • leech;

  • regeneration;

  • recoup;

  • Energy Shield recovery;

  • Life on kill for dense encounters;

  • flask sustain;

  • specialized build mechanics.

The exact system does not matter as much as having one.

Movement Speed Is a Defensive Stat

A fast character can leave danger earlier.

That reduces the amount of damage your defenses ever need to absorb.

Movement speed on boots and reliable movement skills become increasingly valuable as boss mechanics overlap.

Common Forbidden Rites Endgame Mistakes

Pushing Map Tiers Before Your Character Is Ready

Higher tier does not automatically mean faster progression.

If your clear becomes painfully slow, spend time improving gear before pushing farther.

Using Expensive Tablets Too Early

Tablets become much stronger once your Atlas tree supports the mechanic you are farming.

Using premium Tablets during weak progression Maps often wastes their value.

Ignoring the Fortress

The core Atlas Passive Tree is too important to leave underdeveloped.

The Fortress and repeat Arbiter of Divinity progression are a major part of unlocking your endgame potential.

Ignoring 0.5.5c Quest Requirements

You now need to be present when certain bosses die to obtain:

  • Origin Spark;

  • Origin Cradle;

  • Ancient Crisis Fragment;

  • Weathered Crisis Fragment.

This is especially important in parties.

Over-Empowering Wildwood Maps

More Wisps mean more reward potential.

They also mean stronger monsters.

A map you cannot finish is not profitable.

Trying to Complete Every Mechanic Immediately

You do not need Ritual, Breach, Abyss, Delirium, Expedition, Temple, all three Masters, and every pinnacle boss unlocked before you begin farming.

Choose useful progression first.

Specialize afterward.

PoE 2 Forbidden Rites Endgame FAQ

What should I focus on after finishing the campaign?

Focus first on Waystone progression, Atlas Passive Points, character upgrades, and the Precursor Fortress.

As your character becomes stronger, unlock the league mechanics you actually intend to farm.

What are the highest normal Waystone tiers?

Normal progression reaches Tier 15, while corrupting Tier 15 Waystones can produce Tier 16 Maps.

What is the main core pinnacle boss in the current endgame?

The Arbiter of Divinity is central to the modern core Atlas progression introduced with Patch 0.5.

The Arbiter of Ash still remains an important major boss and part of the Legacy of the Precursors questline.

How do I unlock the main Atlas Passive Tree faster in 0.5.5?

Patch 0.5.5 allows the non-quest Arbiter of Divinity kill to complete the rest of the Precursor Fortress for the Map owner, allowing the main Atlas Passive Tree to be allocated much more freely.

What is Sacred Bloom?

Sacred Bloom is a Forbidden Rites-exclusive Ritual reward that adds the Viridian Wildwood to a cluster of Atlas Maps.

Inside the Wildwood, you gather Wisps that empower Map monsters and increase their potential rewards.

What are Large Abyssal Ravines?

They are new Atlas features added in 0.5.5.

Maps located along a Large Abyssal Ravine are guaranteed to contain Abyss encounters, making Abyss easier to target as a dedicated farming strategy.

Is Expedition available in Forbidden Rites?

Yes.

Expedition became core content in 0.5.5, and Expedition Tablets are available in Forbidden Rites. Multiple Tablets can increase Expedition density and add more encounters or Verisium Remnants.

Is Trial of Chaos worth running in endgame?

It is much stronger than before.

Reward chests now appear after rooms, completion rewards focus on Currency and Soul Cores, and successful ten-Trial runs can continue into additional higher-risk stages.

Which league mechanic should I specialize in?

Choose based on your build.

Ritual and Wildwood favor strong area control and survivability.

Breach rewards extremely fast clear.

Abyss benefits high-density mapping builds.

Delirium requires strong overall defenses and sustained damage.

Expedition rewards builds that can handle dangerous Remnant modifiers.

There is no reason to force your character into content it handles poorly.

Conclusion

The PoE 2 Forbidden Rites endgame is not one progression path. It is a network of Maps, Atlas systems, league mechanics and pinnacle bosses that gradually gives you more control over what you want to play.

Waystones move you through increasingly difficult Maps.

The Precursor Fortress develops your primary Atlas Passive Tree.

The Arbiter of Ash and Arbiter of Divinity test your core endgame progression.

Ritual leads into the King in the Mists, Rite of the Nameless, Bodach, Sacred Blooms, and Wildwood-empowered maps.

Breach progresses toward Xesht.

Abyss develops through the Well of Souls and its boss encounters.

Delirium builds toward Simulacrum and Tangmazu.

Expedition opens Grand Expeditions and a chain of powerful bosses.

The Vaal Temple provides its own customizable progression toward Atziri.

And the Atlas Masters let you shape the entire endgame around the content your character performs best in.

Patch 0.5.5 makes several of these systems smoother. Large Abyssal Ravines provide clearer Abyss targeting, Expedition is now core, Trial of Chaos is far more rewarding and convenient, and repeat Arbiter of Divinity progression can finish the entire Precursor Fortress.

The most important thing is not to rush every system at once.

Build enough Waystone sustain.

Unlock meaningful Atlas power.

Fix your character whenever a new difficulty tier exposes a weakness.

Learn the boss encounters instead of trying to overpower every mechanic.

Then choose a farming strategy that your build can execute comfortably.

That is when Path of Exile 2's endgame changes from overwhelming to rewarding: when the Atlas stops telling you where to go and starts letting you decide what is worth running.

For players who want additional help with character progression, endgame Maps, or difficult Path of Exile 2 encounters, BoostRoom can support your progression while you continue developing your Forbidden Rites character.
