What Is Bounty Hunt in Hunt: Showdown 1896?

Bounty Hunt is the core extraction mode of Hunt: Showdown 1896.

You enter a Mission alone, as a duo, or as part of a trio. Your objective is to track down a Target, defeat it, secure its Bounty, and successfully extract.

That sounds straightforward.

The complication is that every other Hunter can pursue the same objective.

A typical Bounty Hunt therefore combines several different layers of gameplay:

  • investigating Clues;

  • navigating AI-controlled enemies;

  • locating Boss Targets;

  • fighting or avoiding enemy Hunters;

  • defeating and banishing a Boss;

  • defending or attacking a banishment;

  • collecting Bounty Tokens;

  • escaping to an Extraction Point.

The Bounty is the objective that pulls teams together.

Boss fights themselves are rarely the hardest part of Hunt.

The real danger usually begins when several teams arrive at the same compound and attempt to control the Bounty. Crytek describes Bounty Hunt around exactly this loop: track the Target, kill it, claim the Bounty, and fight your way to extraction.

Understanding how the objective changes player movement is therefore one of the most important skills you can develop.

How to Find the Boss in Bounty Hunt

Your first objective is normally locating the Boss Target.

Use Dark Sight to Find Clues

Activate Dark Sight while moving through the map.

Nearby Clues appear as clusters of blue energy.

Investigating a Clue removes sections of the map where your current Boss Target cannot be located.

This gradually narrows your search area.

Importantly, every team investigating the same Target receives the same pattern of map reduction. That means understanding how the map closes can help you predict where other teams may be moving.

Three Clues Reveal the Boss Lair

Normally, investigating three Clues reveals the exact compound containing the Boss Target.

You can also discover the Boss Lair naturally before collecting all three Clues.

If two Boss Targets are available, the map can be split into separate investigation areas, with Clues in each section corresponding to the Target located there.

This creates an important strategic decision.

Do you continue collecting Clues?

Or do you rotate directly toward a compound you strongly suspect contains the Target?

New players often follow Clues mechanically.

Experienced players increasingly use Clues as information rather than mandatory checkpoints.

Do Not Rush Every Clue

A Clue tells you where the Boss is not.

It can also indirectly tell enemy Hunters where you are.

Running directly between Clue compounds as quickly as possible can make your route predictable.

Before entering a compound:

  • listen for gunfire;

  • check whether AI has been disturbed;

  • look for opened doors;

  • notice broken windows;

  • listen for melee attacks;

  • identify triggered animals or other sound traps.

If another team reached the compound first, blindly sprinting toward the Clue may give them an easy ambush.

Your goal is not simply to collect three Clues.

Your goal is to reach the Bounty in a position where you can survive.

How Boss Whisper Works

When you approach a standard Boss Lair, Dark Sight gives you one of the most important pieces of information in Bounty Hunt.

Within approximately 50 meters of the Boss Lair, check the Boss Target icon while using Dark Sight.

A white flashing indicator means the system is not detecting an enemy Hunter within the defined Boss perimeter.

A red flashing indicator means at least one enemy Hunter is nearby.

Use this before entering.

Do not assume that finding the Boss first means you have the compound to yourself.

White Does Not Mean Completely Safe

A white Boss Whisper only tells you that no enemy Hunter is currently detected inside its relevant perimeter.

Another team may still be:

  • approaching from another compound;

  • positioned slightly outside the detection range;

  • watching the compound from distance;

  • rotating toward the sound of the Boss fight.

Treat the white indicator as useful information, not a guarantee.

Red Means PvP Takes Priority

If the Boss indicator flashes red, immediately reconsider attacking the Boss.

The enemy Hunter is usually the greater threat.

Fighting a Boss while another team watches the entrances can leave you:

  • damaged;

  • poisoned;

  • bleeding;

  • burning;

  • low on stamina;

  • distracted when the push arrives.

Secure the compound situation first.

Then return to the Target.

Current Bounty Hunt Targets

The permanent core target roster currently consists of four traditional Boss Targets and two Wild Targets.

Boss Targets:

  • Butcher

  • Spider

  • Assassin

  • Scrapbeak

Wild Targets:

  • Rotjaw

  • Hellborn

The traditional Boss Targets live inside Boss Lairs and require banishment.

Wild Targets operate differently and are encountered in the open world rather than normal Boss compounds.

Temporary events can introduce additional rules or special targets, but this guide focuses on the permanent Bounty Hunt systems rather than temporary event mechanics.

Butcher Guide

The Butcher is a large, aggressive Boss that specializes in Fire Damage.

He is relatively straightforward mechanically, but careless players can quickly lose Health Chunks to burning.

Butcher Weaknesses

The current official guide lists the Butcher as:

Resistant to: Fire

Weak to: Rending Damage and Poison Damage.

Axes are particularly effective in-world weapons against him because of their high Rending Damage.

How the Butcher Fights

The Butcher attacks with his flaming hook and can also use a ranged fireball attack.

He enters frenzy phases as his Health decreases.

During frenzy he:

  • moves faster;

  • becomes more aggressive;

  • leaves fire behind;

  • takes reduced damage;

  • cannot normally be staggered.

Do not continue standing beside him simply because you want one more melee hit.

When frenzy begins, create distance.

Practical Butcher Strategy

A safe basic rhythm is:

attack → retreat → allow frenzy pressure to pass → attack again.

Do not become greedy.

Most unnecessary Boss deaths happen because the player attempts one additional swing when they should already be leaving the room.

Choke effects can extinguish the fire on the Butcher's hook, although doing so changes his aggression behavior.

PvP Risk During the Butcher

Fire creates an additional danger.

If another team attacks while you are already burning or missing Health Chunks, your ability to survive rifle damage becomes much worse.

Always keep one teammate listening when possible.

Spider Guide

The Spider is fast, mobile, and capable of Poison Damage.

It often spends more time moving around the lair than standing where you want it.

Spider Weakness

The Spider is:

Resistant to: Poison

Weak to: Fire.

Spider Attacks

The Spider can:

  • leap onto Hunters;

  • inflict Poison;

  • create Poison Clouds;

  • become extremely aggressive during frenzy phases.

Its jumping attack can deal significant damage and briefly disrupt your control of the fight.

The official guide notes that enough damage during the preparation for a jump can interrupt the attack and force the Spider away.

Antidote Is Extremely Useful

An Antidote effect prevents the Poison status and makes the Spider's Poison Clouds much easier to manage.

That does not make you immune to all damage from the Boss.

It simply removes one of the fight's most disruptive mechanics.

Do Not Chase the Spider Around the Entire Lair

This is a common mistake.

Players hear the Spider above them and immediately sprint after it.

The Spider moves.

They chase again.

Meanwhile, every footstep inside the compound makes it harder to hear another team approaching.

Let the Boss return.

Maintain awareness of entrances.

You do not need to finish the Spider ten seconds faster if doing so means missing the sound of three Hunters entering the compound.

Assassin Guide

The Assassin is built around mobility, confusion, Bleeding, and sudden attacks.

It can transform into a swarm-like state, rapidly reposition, and create clones during frenzy.

Assassin Weaknesses

The current official guide lists:

Weak to: Poison Damage

Weak to Rending Damage during frenzy.

Assassin Attacks

The Assassin can:

  • appear behind Hunters;

  • stab and cause Bleeding;

  • fire projectile-like daggers;

  • generate clones during frenzy;

  • impair vision before attacking.

The clones themselves are fragile and can be destroyed easily.

Stop Bleeding Before It Becomes a PvP Problem

The Assassin's Bleeding becomes much more dangerous when another team reaches the compound.

Do not continue fighting aggressively while already damaged and Bleeding unless there is a very good reason.

Enemy Hunters may hear the chaos and push precisely when your team is weakest.

Avoid Fighting the Assassin in a Panic

The Boss wants you to react to constant repositioning.

Stay controlled.

Listen.

Attack when it exposes itself.

Then reset.

Frustration causes more Assassin mistakes than mechanical difficulty.

Scrapbeak Guide

Scrapbeak is one of the most strategically important Bosses because his presence changes the supplies around his compound.

He hoards equipment within approximately 100 meters of the Boss Lair, meaning the usual medical and ammunition resources around the area are missing.

That makes preparation significantly more important.

Scrapbeak Weakness

Scrapbeak's major weakness is Piercing Damage.

His backpack also provides protection from some attacks, while Piercing Damage can penetrate it.

Scrapbeak Frenzy

At each frenzy threshold, Scrapbeak can drop supplies from his collection.

These may include:

  • Medical Packs;

  • Ammo Boxes;

  • Tool Boxes;

  • lanterns;

  • Trait Spurs;

  • Bear Traps.

He also deploys Concertina that can obstruct movement around the lair.

Avoid Destroying Your Own Supplies

Fire and explosive damage can destroy supplies Scrapbeak drops.

That creates a choice.

You can attempt to kill him as quickly as possible.

Or you can preserve resources you may need for the PvP fight afterward.

When your team is already low on healing or ammunition, preserving his drops can be much more valuable than saving a few seconds.

Scrapbeak PvP Is Different

Because nearby resources have been removed, attacking a Scrapbeak compound after another team has already started the Boss can be unusual.

The defenders may have limited external resupply.

But if they have progressed the Boss through several frenzy phases, they may also have collected supplies inside.

Do not assume either side has the resource advantage.

Rotjaw Guide

Rotjaw is a Wild Target rather than a standard compound Boss.

She appears in bodies of water on Stillwater Bayou, Lawson Delta, and DeSalle.

Instead of normal Clues, you track Rotjaw using Traces visible through Dark Sight.

Interacting with a Trace reveals a directional indication toward her location.

Rotjaw Weakness

Rotjaw is weak to Blunt Damage.

Useful Blunt options can include:

  • Dusters;

  • Knuckle Knife attacks;

  • Baseball Bat;

  • Sledgehammer.

Rotjaw's Biggest Danger Is the Terrain

Water is already risky in Hunt.

Movement is limited.

Cover is often poor.

Your ability to retreat from another team is reduced.

Rotjaw adds her own attacks and Arc Bloom effects on top of that.

This means you should always check the surrounding shoreline before committing.

Ask:

  • Can another team see us from higher ground?

  • Where is our nearest solid cover?

  • How will we escape if rifles start firing?

  • Are we fighting in open water with no safe retreat?

A technically easy Rotjaw fight can become one of the worst possible PvP positions.

Stamina Helps Against Rotjaw

The official guide notes that a Stamina Shot negates the stamina-draining portion of Rotjaw's Arc Bloom.

That can make the fight considerably more comfortable.

Hellborn Guide

Hellborn is another Wild Target.

Unlike a normal Boss, he is tracked primarily by sound through Dark Sight.

Activate Dark Sight and listen for his low roar.

The sound becomes stronger as you move closer.

Hellborn Weaknesses

Hellborn specializes in Fire Damage and also resists Fire.

His main weaknesses are:

  • Choke Clouds;

  • Water Bottles.

Why Hellborn Attracts PvP

Once combat begins, Hellborn produces an extremely loud roar that can be heard across the map.

That means fighting Hellborn effectively announces:

someone is here.

Kill him efficiently.

Then immediately prepare for other Hunters.

Do not stand around looting or reorganizing your entire loadout as though nothing happened.

Wild Targets Do Not Use Standard Banishment

Wild Targets behave differently from Boss Targets.

When killed, they apply a Full Health Restoration immediately rather than requiring the normal banishment process, and they drop one Bounty Token.

Hellborn specifically drops his Bounty immediately after death without a banishment timer.

That makes the transition from PvE to extraction much faster.

It also means you must be prepared to move immediately.

What Happens When You Banish a Boss?

Defeating a standard Boss Target is only the first step.

After the Boss dies, a Hunter must initiate banishment.

Once banishment begins, its location becomes known across the map.

This is when the Mission often changes dramatically.

Teams that were previously:

  • collecting Clues;

  • fighting elsewhere;

  • waiting near another compound;

  • searching for the Boss;

now have a confirmed objective location.

Expect movement toward you.

Banishment Restores Your Team

Initiating a normal Boss banishment triggers a Full Health Restoration for the team that begins it, restoring lost Health Chunks and Health.

This is strategically important.

Imagine you win a fight around the Boss but lose several Health Chunks.

Starting the banishment can return your team to fighting condition.

That makes control over the Boss corpse valuable even before the Bounty appears.

You Do Not Need to Stand Beside the Boss During Banishment

Once the banishment has begun, your job changes.

The Boss is no longer the priority.

Enemy Hunters are.

Use the banishment period to:

  • heal;

  • reload;

  • loot defeated Hunters when safe;

  • replace used Consumables;

  • identify defensive positions;

  • check likely approach routes;

  • establish crossfire;

  • determine your extraction route.

Do not have the entire team stare at the banishment indicator.

Control the compound.

How Many Bounty Tokens Does a Boss Drop?

A standard Boss Target produces two Bounty Tokens after banishment.

Each Hunter can carry only one token from that Boss Target.

This has an important consequence for trios.

A trio cannot give all three players a token from one ordinary Boss.

One player will remain without that specific Bounty.

Wild Targets instead drop one Bounty Token.

How Dark Sight Boost Works

Picking up a Bounty Token gives the carrier five seconds of Dark Sight Boost.

While using boosted Dark Sight, enemy Hunters can appear as blurry orange outlines within approximately 125 meters.

The five seconds do not need to be used continuously.

You can activate Dark Sight in short bursts.

That is almost always the better approach.

Use Short Scans

A strong Bounty scan may last only a fraction of a second.

You are asking one question:

Is anyone in that direction?

See orange.

Exit Dark Sight.

Move.

Scan again later.

Holding the scan unnecessarily burns one of your most valuable resources.

Instinct Gives Additional Warning

Bounty carriers also gain Instinct.

While using Dark Sight, an orange aura around the edge of the screen warns that an enemy Hunter is within approximately 75 meters.

This means even after conserving Dark Sight Boost, basic Dark Sight still provides useful nearby-threat information.

Carrying the Bounty Also Reveals You

Dark Sight Boost is powerful because Bounty carriers gain information.

The cost is that the rest of the map also gains information about them.

Hunters carrying Bounty Tokens are visible to other players through the Bounty's lightning indication in Dark Sight and can be tracked approximately from the map.

You are no longer hidden in the same way.

That changes how you should move.

Before collecting a token, decide:

  • which extraction you prefer;

  • whether another team is nearby;

  • whether you want both tokens immediately;

  • whether somebody should watch the exterior;

  • which side of the compound provides the safest exit.

The moment you collect the Bounty, surviving teams have a much clearer idea of where you are.

Should You Pick Up the Bounty Immediately?

Not always.

This is an important higher-level Bounty Hunt decision.

Pick It Up Immediately When

  • you need Dark Sight information;

  • enemies are already attacking;

  • another team could steal the token;

  • you are ready to leave;

  • the compound appears clear.

Consider Waiting When

  • you already know where the enemy is;

  • picking it up would reveal your exact movement unnecessarily;

  • you want to reposition before becoming trackable;

  • one teammate is scouting outside;

  • enemies are waiting for you to become visible.

There is no universal rule.

The important part is intentionality.

Do not pick up a Bounty simply because the button appears.

Know what you gain and what information you give away.

How to Defend a Banishment

Defending a Boss compound does not mean sitting motionless inside the Boss Lair.

Passive defenders often surrender most of the compound for free.

Attackers then reach:

  • exterior walls;

  • nearby roofs;

  • windows;

  • doors;

  • surrounding buildings;

without resistance.

A stronger defense controls space.

Identify Likely Approaches

Use what you heard earlier in the Mission.

If gunfire came from the east, another team may approach from that direction.

If one side of the compound connects directly to the center of the map, expect traffic there.

Do not distribute your attention evenly when the information does not support it.

Create Crossfire

Avoid stacking the entire team behind one doorway.

If three Hunters stand in one room, the enemy can suppress everyone with one explosive or one angle.

Instead, position so teammates can punish an enemy pushing another player.

A good defensive setup forces attackers to worry about multiple angles.

Do Not Peek Predictably

Attackers often wait for defenders to repeatedly use:

  • the same window;

  • the same roof edge;

  • the same door crack.

Take one shot.

Move.

Use another angle.

The goal is to make attackers continuously update their information.

Keep an Exit Available

Trapping yourself inside the Boss Lair can become dangerous.

Always understand how your team could leave if:

  • another team arrives;

  • the front entrance is covered;

  • explosives begin entering the building;

  • the fight moves away from your preferred range.

Defense does not mean refusing to move.

How to Attack a Bounty Compound

Attacking the Boss team requires patience and information.

The defenders may have:

  • shotguns;

  • traps;

  • Bounty Dark Sight;

  • strong interior cover;

  • knowledge of your approach.

Running through the closest door is rarely your only option.

First Determine Where the Bounty Team Is

Watch the lightning position.

Listen for footsteps.

Pay attention to windows.

Force defenders to make noise.

Do not enter until you have some understanding of the interior.

Make Them Spend Dark Sight

Bounty Dark Sight is limited.

If you repeatedly reposition around the outside of the compound, defenders may spend Boost attempting to track you.

Do not remain at the same wall for several minutes.

Every rotation makes their old information less valuable.

Pressure Multiple Entrances

One player making noise at the front while another quietly rotates can create much stronger openings than all players attacking the same door.

Your objective is to stretch the defense.

Make them turn.

Make them separate.

Make them expose themselves.

Use Consumables to Create Movement

Explosives do not need to kill someone to be useful.

A throwable can force a defender:

  • away from a corner;

  • out of a room;

  • down a staircase;

  • away from a revive;

  • out of shotgun position.

Use utility to create a gunfight on favorable terms.

Do Not Turn Every Bounty Fight Into a Stalemate

Some Bounty fights become long stand-offs.

Shotgun players refuse to leave.

Rifle players refuse to enter.

Neither side changes anything.

If the current situation favors the opponent, alter it.

Attackers can:

  • rotate;

  • back away and create distance;

  • threaten extraction routes;

  • attack from another building;

  • use utility.

Defenders can:

  • leave from an unexpected side;

  • take exterior control;

  • reposition during another fight;

  • move toward extraction when the attackers overcommit.

You are not required to accept the opponent's preferred engagement range.

Third Parties Are Always a Threat

The team you are fighting may not be the only team nearby.

Bounty compounds naturally attract multiple groups.

This creates one of Hunt's most dangerous situations:

you win a difficult fight and immediately behave as though the Mission is safe.

Then the third team arrives.

After every kill or team wipe:

  • reload;

  • heal;

  • check Dark Sight;

  • listen;

  • count bodies;

  • check unusual angles.

Do not loot immediately just because someone died.

A dead Hunter will still be there after you confirm the area is safe.

Count Hunters and Teams

Information about team composition matters enormously around a Bounty.

Suppose you kill two players.

Did you eliminate a duo?

Or are they part of a trio?

If you do not know, assume another Hunter may still be alive.

Likewise, hearing two weapons does not guarantee only two players are present.

One Hunter may not have fired yet.

Use:

  • observed bodies;

  • weapon sounds;

  • footsteps;

  • revives;

  • Dark Sight;

  • earlier fights;

to construct the most accurate picture possible.

Hunt rewards players who keep track of what has happened.

When Should You Leave the Boss Compound?

You do not need to kill every Hunter before extracting.

Once you have the Bounty, leaving may be the strongest decision.

Consider extracting when:

  • the nearest extraction is favorable;

  • another team is fighting elsewhere;

  • your team is low on resources;

  • you have lost Health Chunks after the banish;

  • the enemy holds a position you do not need to attack;

  • you have a clear route.

Carrying the Bounty is already your victory condition.

Do not turn a successful Mission into a loss because you wanted one additional PvP fight.

How Extraction Works

Once you reach an available Extraction Point, the extraction countdown begins.

Extraction currently takes 30 seconds.

If a teammate is downed during the countdown, the timer pauses until that player is revived.

If an enemy Hunter enters the Extraction Point, they block the extraction and freeze the countdown.

That means reaching extraction is not the same as escaping.

Scan Before Entering Extraction

If you still have Dark Sight Boost, save some for the final approach.

A short scan can reveal whether somebody is waiting near the extraction.

This is often more valuable than spending your last Boost inside an already-cleared compound.

Do Not Stand Together

Three teammates standing in the same small area can be vulnerable to:

  • explosives;

  • penetration;

  • a single strong firing angle;

  • aggressive close-range pushes.

Spread within the extraction zone when possible while maintaining mutual support.

Watch the Direction You Came From

Pursuing teams often follow the obvious route.

Do not stare only at the extraction vehicle or boat.

Your Bounty already tells other Hunters where you are moving.

Expect pursuit.

How to Escape Bounty Pursuers

Running directly toward extraction is not always enough.

A pursuing team may attempt to cut you off rather than follow directly behind.

Use Terrain

Choose routes with:

  • hard cover;

  • elevation;

  • compounds you understand;

  • multiple escape options.

Avoid crossing large open areas simply because they form the shortest line.

Make the Enemy Guess

The Bounty marker provides information, but it is not the same as permanent exact wallhack-level tracking.

Use terrain and direction changes to create uncertainty.

You can:

  • briefly move toward one extraction;

  • rotate around a compound;

  • exit through another side;

  • force the pursuers to commit before changing direction.

Do not overcomplicate a safe escape, but do not become completely predictable either.

Fight When the Terrain Favors You

Sometimes running continuously gives the pursuing team better shots.

If you reach strong cover and the enemy must cross open ground, turning around and fighting may be safer.

Extraction strategy is not always about running.

It is about controlling the conditions of the final encounter.

When Should You Go for the Second Bounty?

If another objective remains available, your team may consider pursuing it after securing the first.

This is a risk-reward decision.

Going for more Bounty may mean:

  • more rewards;

  • more PvP;

  • more resources spent;

  • greater chance of losing the Hunter you already succeeded with.

Consider your current condition.

Ask:

  • How much healing remains?

  • How much ammunition remains?

  • Have we lost Health Chunks?

  • How many enemy teams may still be alive?

  • Do we have useful Dark Sight Boost remaining?

  • Is the other Bounty moving toward us?

  • Are we already positioned near an extraction?

Sometimes continuing makes sense.

Sometimes leaving with what you already earned is the better Hunt decision.

Useful Traits for Bounty Hunt

Several Traits are particularly valuable around Bounty objectives.

Necromancer

Remote revives can be extremely useful during compound fights.

Use them carefully.

A teammate revived into an enemy's crosshair will simply die again.

Resilience

For teams, Resilience makes revives safer by restoring your remaining Health Chunks to full after you are revived.

It pairs naturally with Necromancer.

Serpent

Serpent allows remote interaction with Clues and Bounty Tokens through Dark Sight.

This can be particularly useful for stealing or collecting an objective without physically exposing yourself at the exact location.

Magpie

Magpie becomes useful after acquiring Bounty Tokens and has particularly strong solo utility.

Vigilant

Compounds around active Bounties are common locations for traps.

Vigilant helps identify traps through Dark Sight before you walk into them.

Useful Equipment for Boss and Bounty Fighting

Your exact equipment depends on your build, but Bounty Hunt rewards preparation.

Strong general-purpose choices include:

  • First Aid Kit;

  • reliable melee option;

  • Choke Bombs for team play;

  • healing Consumables;

  • offensive throwable;

  • utility appropriate to your weapons.

Boss-specific preparation can also matter.

For example:

Butcher: Rending or Poison options.

Spider: Fire and Antidote utility.

Scrapbeak: Piercing Damage and strong starting supplies.

Rotjaw: Blunt Damage and stamina support.

Hellborn: Choke effects.

Do not destroy your entire PvP loadout just to kill Bosses faster.

Other Hunters remain the greater threat.

Common Bounty Hunt Mistakes

Starting the Boss While the Whisper Is Red

If the Boss warning indicates another Hunter nearby, PvP should usually become your priority.

Do not allow another team to attack you while you are damaged and distracted.

Everyone Fighting the Boss

In a team, you rarely need all players focused entirely on PvE.

One Hunter can listen or watch approaches while the others damage the Target.

Information is worth more than slightly faster Boss damage.

Fighting Through Every Frenzy

Standard Bosses become more dangerous and resistant during frenzy phases.

Backing away is not wasted time.

It is controlled Boss management.

Picking Up the Bounty Without Thinking

Collecting the Bounty gives you Dark Sight information.

It also makes you much easier for the rest of the server to track.

Know why you are picking it up.

Spending All Dark Sight Boost Immediately

Five seconds sounds like plenty until you waste four seconds staring at one enemy.

Scan briefly.

Preserve information for later.

Camping Only Inside the Boss Room

Defending a Bounty does not require surrendering the entire compound.

Control useful exterior space when possible.

Looting Before Confirming the Team Is Dead

A Hunter body is bait if their teammate is still alive.

Secure the fight first.

Loot second.

Forgetting About Third Parties

Bounty fights attract players.

Winning against one team does not mean the compound is clear.

Chasing One Kill Away From the Bounty

A wounded enemy may intentionally pull you away from:

  • your team;

  • your Bounty;

  • strong cover;

  • extraction.

Ask whether the kill is actually worth pursuing.

Staying Too Long After the Objective Is Secure

Once you have the Bounty and a safe extraction route, unnecessary fighting only increases the chance of losing what you already earned.

Bounty Hunt PvP Tips

The best Bounty Hunt players understand that the objective itself creates predictable behavior.

Use that.

Predict Movement From the Objective

Before banishment, teams move toward Clues and potential Boss locations.

During banishment, they move toward the confirmed Boss compound.

After Bounty pickup, they either attack the carrier or attempt to intercept an extraction route.

You can often predict enemy movement without seeing anyone.

Control Space Instead of Hunting Kills

You do not always need to kill an enemy immediately.

If controlling a bridge prevents them from reaching the extraction, that may be enough.

If holding a body prevents a revive, you already have leverage.

If blocking an entrance forces shotgun players to leave through another door, you control the fight.

Kills are the result.

Positioning creates them.

Reposition After Every Important Shot

Once you fire, assume the enemy understands your angle.

Move before they pre-aim your next peek.

This becomes even more important around Boss compounds where experienced players know the common windows and sightlines.

Preserve Your Health Chunks

A lost Health Chunk changes weapon breakpoints.

A rifle that previously would not down you with one body hit may become much more dangerous.

Banishment and Wild Target kills can restore missing Chunks under the appropriate conditions, so objective control can sometimes be more valuable than chasing another kill.

Bounty Hunt FAQ

How many Clues are needed to find a Boss?

Three normal Clues reveal the exact Boss Target compound.

You can also discover the Boss naturally before collecting all three.

How does the Boss warning work?

Within approximately 50 meters of a Boss Lair, Dark Sight shows a flashing Boss indicator.

White means no enemy Hunter is detected within the Boss perimeter.

Red means at least one enemy Hunter is nearby.

How many Bounty Tokens does a normal Boss drop?

A normal Boss Target produces two Bounty Tokens after banishment.

Each Hunter can carry only one Token from that specific Boss.

How many Bounty Tokens does a Wild Target drop?

Wild Targets such as Rotjaw and Hellborn drop one Bounty Token.

Do Wild Targets need to be banished?

No.

Current Wild Targets do not use the standard Boss banishment process. Killing one triggers Full Health Restoration and produces its Bounty directly.

How much Dark Sight Boost does a Bounty give?

Picking up a Bounty Token currently provides five seconds of Dark Sight Boost.

Enemy Hunters can be revealed as orange outlines at distances up to approximately 125 meters.

What is Bounty Instinct?

While a Bounty carrier uses Dark Sight, an orange aura appears when an enemy Hunter is within approximately 75 meters.

How long does extraction take?

Extraction currently takes 30 seconds.

The countdown freezes if an enemy Hunter contests the extraction zone or if a teammate becomes downed during the countdown.

Which Boss is easiest?

There is no universal easiest Boss because preparation changes each encounter.

The Butcher is mechanically straightforward once you understand his Fire Damage and frenzy behavior.

The Spider and Assassin are more mobile.

Scrapbeak changes the compound's resource economy.

Rotjaw and Hellborn create different risks because they are fought in the open world.

Should I always take both Bounties?

No.

Extracting with one secured objective is often better than risking everything for another.

Your decision should depend on your Health, ammunition, remaining healing, enemy positions, Dark Sight, and extraction options.

Final Thoughts

Bounty Hunt becomes much easier to understand once you stop viewing the Boss as the entire objective.

The Boss is the center of a larger PvP system.

Clues create movement.

The Boss Lair creates convergence.

Banishment announces a location.

Bounty Tokens create information and reveal their carriers.

Extraction creates the final chase.

Every stage gives you clues about where enemy Hunters are likely to go next.

Learn the individual Targets.

Respect Boss frenzy phases.

Check the Boss Whisper before committing.

Use Dark Sight Boost carefully.

Expect third parties during banishment.

Control the compound instead of hiding in one room.

And remember that the objective is not to kill every Hunter on the map.

The objective is to secure the Bounty and leave alive.

If another fight helps you achieve that, take it.

If the fight only risks a Bounty you have already earned, extraction may be the stronger play.
