How Many Collectibles Are in Gears of War: E-Day?
Gears of War: E-Day contains 140 standard Campaign collectibles distributed across five Acts.
Here's the complete breakdown:
Act 1 – 13 collectibles. The opening chapters introduce the collectible system through relatively linear environments, with items hidden inside offices, shops, and smaller side routes.
Act 2 – 38 collectibles. The first major exploration sections contain numerous hidden items. Hold the Line alone accounts for 27 collectibles, making it the largest single-chapter collection.
Act 3 – 36 collectibles. Underground passages, ruined military installations, hospitals, and optional objectives contain several easily overlooked items.
Act 4 – 41 collectibles. The largest Act for collectibles includes open districts, industrial facilities, train sequences, and important chapter-specific pickups.
Act 5 – 12 collectibles. The concluding chapters contain fewer items, but several appear during fast-moving story sequences. Two final collectibles are awarded automatically.
These 140 collectibles include COG Tags, so you do not need to complete an additional, separate COG Tag collection beyond this list.
Do Hard Cases Count as Collectibles?
Hard Cases are tracked separately from standard collectibles.
The Campaign contains 125 Hard Cases, which are yellow containers associated with weapon and character customization upgrades.
They contribute toward the separate Relax. I'm the Map. achievement.
You don't need all 125 Hard Cases to complete Memories From E-Day.
Likewise, Secondary Objectives and Supply Cache unlocks have separate completion requirements.
This guide focuses on the 140 standard collectibles, including every COG Tag entry.

How to Find Collectibles More Easily
Before searching individual locations, understand how the game helps you identify nearby pickups.
E-Day provides several useful tools for locating hidden items.
Listen for the Collectible Audio Cue
When you approach certain collectibles, the game plays a short audio notification.
This sound is a signal to stop moving and inspect your surroundings.
Don't assume the collectible is directly ahead.
It might be on another floor, behind a wall, underneath your current position, or inside an adjacent room.
Once you hear the cue, search carefully before proceeding.
Use Tac-Com to Highlight Nearby Items
Tac-Com can help reveal nearby collectibles.
On the default controller layout, holding LB activates Tac-Com.
If you've changed your controls or you're playing on PC, use your assigned input.
This is especially useful in dark interiors, destroyed buildings, and areas containing multiple interactive objects.
Check the War Journal
The War Journal records your collectible progress.
It allows you to identify which Acts and chapters still contain missing entries.
You can also check the chapter collectible count through the pause menu.
Always inspect your chapter total before moving into a major story transition.
For example, if the chapter contains five collectibles and you've only found four, searching immediately is often easier than returning later.
Explore Before Advancing the Main Objective
Some Campaign chapters contain sections that become temporarily inaccessible once the story progresses.
These may include buildings entered during Secondary Objectives or areas reached through one-way traversal sections.
The safest approach is to explore nearby rooms and optional routes before committing to the next story objective.
Missing an item doesn't necessarily ruin your completion attempt, because chapter replay allows you to return later.
However, finding everything during the first visit saves considerable effort.
Act 1 – All 13 Collectibles Locations
Act 1 contains four chapters and 13 collectibles.
The areas are mostly linear, making this an excellent opportunity to learn how E-Day hides items.
Pay particular attention to the recruitment center and the route toward Echo Park.
Chapter 1: Emergence – 3 Collectibles
1. Monster Jaw
After the opening Wretch encounter, return to the street and find the nearby newspaper kiosk. Check the pavement close to the kiosk and Emergence Hole for the Monster Jaw.
2. Bloody Transit Worker's Helmet
Continue through the maintenance tunnels until you pass the glowing Emergence Hole. Shortly afterward, look for a small opening along the left side of the corridor. The helmet is beside a fallen transit worker.
3. Front Page of the Kalona Times

If anything is missing, the recruitment center and the hospital-to-park route are particularly useful places to revisit.
Act 2 – All 38 Collectibles Locations
Act 2 contains 38 collectibles across five chapters.
This is where collecting becomes significantly more demanding.
The Campaign opens into larger districts containing apartments, businesses, alleys, rooftops, and Secondary Objectives.

Instead, search each accessible district and complete relevant optional objectives before leaving.

140. Carlos Santiago's COG Tags and Photo
This final collectible is recorded automatically during the concluding story events and credits.
It does not require searching an additional hidden room.
Chapter completion: 3/3 collectibles.
Once the ending is complete, your War Journal should show 140/140 standard Campaign collectibles.
All COG Tags Locations – What Players Should Know
COG Tags are among the most recognizable collectibles in the Gears of War franchise.
They serve as reminders of soldiers who died during the conflict, giving the Campaign additional emotional weight.
In E-Day, COG Tags are included directly in the 140 standard collectibles.
This means you don't need to complete an additional separate COG Tag collection.
Where Are Most COG Tags Hidden?
COG Tags generally appear close to fallen COG soldiers.
However, the exact situations vary.
Near damaged military vehicles.
Check areas containing ruined transports, burning trucks, armored vehicles, and police barricades. Several tags are found close to bodies left behind during battles.
Inside abandoned buildings.
Apartments, hospitals, offices, and military installations often contain fallen soldiers. Search these interiors before leaving.
Along secondary routes.
Some tags appear outside the direct story path, including optional mission areas, scaffolding, side streets, and lower bridge sections.
Beside important story events.
Certain tags are awarded automatically through the Campaign. Others are found immediately after major encounters.
When looking for missing COG Tags, follow the chapter entries in this guide rather than searching every dead soldier randomly.
Your War Journal provides the best way to narrow the search.
Can You Miss Collectibles Permanently?
Some collectibles are missable during a particular chapter run because the story moves you away from their locations.
However, chapter replay allows players to return for missed collectibles without restarting the entire Campaign.
This makes cleanup significantly easier.
How to Recover a Missing Collectible
Use the following approach:
Open your War Journal. Check the Campaign's collectible entries and identify the Act containing the missing item.
Find the incomplete chapter. Compare its recorded total against the chapter counts listed in this guide.
Replay the relevant chapter. Return to the chapter containing the missing pickup rather than restarting the entire story.
Follow the location directions. Search the relevant landmark, room, objective area, or fallen soldier.
Confirm the collectible registered. After interacting with the item, check your updated Journal count.
This method is especially useful when you're missing only a handful of collectibles.
Checkpoint and Save Considerations
There is an important detail when collecting items through chapter replay.
Some Hard Case and collectible interactions can require rechecking if you die before reaching a checkpoint.
To avoid confusion, verify the collectible has been recorded after collecting it and reaching a suitable checkpoint.
If your Journal doesn't reflect the pickup after reloading, return to the location.
Don't assume an interaction was permanently saved simply because you briefly saw a pickup notification.
Most Easily Missed Gears of War: E-Day Collectibles
Although every item in the guide matters, certain collectibles deserve additional attention.
These are among the biggest traps for players attempting 100% completion.
Try On Pilot Helmet – Act 1
The recruitment center contains both the Army Recruitment Pamphlet and the Pilot Helmet collectible.
Players who collect the pamphlet and immediately leave can easily overlook the nearby helmet display.
Check both before exiting.
Hold the Line Optional Objectives – Act 2
Hold the Line has 27 collectibles, several of which require exploring optional areas.
Important examples include the Trapped Family building, Mags' apartment scene, Bank of Tyrus vault, and Lone Wolf sniper objective.
Don't assume completing the main story route will automatically register every collectible.
COG Tags of Erick Davis – Act 3
These tags are found beside the Supply Cache and Hard Case in the large sewer basin.
Players who move directly toward the next objective can overlook the nearby body.
Check this location if Enemy Lines shows 5/6 collectibles.
Blade-like Projectiles – Act 3
This collectible is associated with Rooftop Mayday.
Completing the objective isn't a replacement for physically finding the collectible.
Search the scaffolding and intermediate landing carefully.
Commander's Letter Home – Act 3
This is one of the most confusing items because it counts toward Act 3 but appears near the transition into Act 4.
If your Act 3 count shows 35/36, check near the truck at Fort Vigil.
Technical Difficulties Train Pickups – Act 4
The COG Tags of Sergeant Aman Landry and the No. 80 Graffitied Poster appear during a train-stop section.
Collect both before continuing the train sequence.
Imulsion Blast Charge – Act 4
Completing Special Cargo isn't sufficient by itself.
You must inspect the opened case and collect the blast charge.
Dalia Fabbri's Research Journal – Act 4
This item is found before the final major encounter in Critical Failure.
Inspect the final accessible room before triggering the boss sequence.
What Do You Get for Finding All 140 Collectibles?
Finding all 140 standard collectibles completes the requirement for the Memories From E-Day achievement.
The achievement is worth 15 Gamerscore.
It can be completed on any Campaign difficulty.
You do not need to play through the entire Campaign on Insane difficulty solely to obtain this achievement.
However, complete Campaign achievement hunting involves more than standard collectibles.
Other tasks include discovering Hard Cases, completing Secondary Objectives, and unlocking the required Supply Cache items.
These belong to separate achievement requirements.
Is Collecting Every COG Tag Necessary?
Yes, if your goal is the Memories From E-Day achievement.
COG Tags are part of the 140 standard collectibles.
Missing a single required COG Tag means your collection remains incomplete.
Do Collectibles Give Weapon Upgrades?
Standard collectibles are primarily tied to Campaign lore, exploration, and achievement completion.
Weapon modification rewards are associated with separate upgrade systems, including Hard Cases and other Campaign content.
Don't confuse lore collectibles with guaranteed weapon improvements.
Finding a newspaper or set of tags doesn't automatically grant a Weapon Mod.
