The FFXIV Uolon Horn is the headline mount reward from Moogle Treasure Trove: The First Hunt for Astronomy, but unlocking it works differently from a normal Treasure Trove mount. You cannot simply grind hundreds of Irregular Tomestones until it appears in your collection.

The Uolon Horn is a special mount-unlocking reward introduced for the 2026 Moogle Treasure Trove: The Hunt for Astronomy.
Unlike the usual Treasure Trove rewards, it has a dual-currency requirement:
100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I
These are the main currency for the First Hunt for Astronomy. You can earn them from qualifying Standard Objectives and bonus Mogpendium objectives.
10 Uolon Horn Tokens
This is the important part. These special tokens are not awarded by ordinary dungeon farming, GATEs, Ocean Fishing, PvP, or other repeatable Standard Objectives. They are tied to Minimog and Ultimog Challenges.
You need both currencies at the same time to exchange for the Uolon Horn. Having 100 Astronomy I without 10 Uolon Horn Tokens is not enough, and farming additional Astronomy I cannot replace missing tokens.
This fundamentally changes how you should approach the event.
For most Treasure Troves, the question is simply how quickly you can farm tomestones. For the Uolon Horn, the more important question is whether you are completing the correct Mogpendium challenges.
There are only two confirmed sources of Uolon Horn Tokens during the First Hunt for Astronomy:
Minimog Challenge — 1 Uolon Horn Token
Each Minimog reward gives 10 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I and 1 Uolon Horn Token. You are offered two Minimog objectives, but completing either one is enough. Completing both does not give a second token.
Ultimog Challenge — 5 Uolon Horn Tokens
The First Hunt Ultimog requires you to complete Aloalo Island six times. Finishing the challenge gives 70 Astronomy I and 5 Uolon Horn Tokens.
That makes the Ultimog Challenge your largest single source of Uolon Horn Tokens.
If your character can access Aloalo Island, this should be one of your highest priorities.
The full First Hunt route is straightforward:
Complete the Ultimog Challenge for 5 tokens, then collect 5 more tokens from five successful Minimog reward claims.
That gives:
5 Uolon Horn Tokens from Ultimog
+ 5 Uolon Horn Tokens from Minimog
= 10 Uolon Horn Tokens
Current event documentation confirms that the First Hunt contains enough opportunities to reach the requirement this way.
There is an additional benefit that is easy to overlook.
If you complete the full First Hunt token route, you do not necessarily need a separate long Astronomy I grind for the Uolon Horn.
The math is:
Ultimog Challenge: 70 Astronomy I
Five Minimog rewards: 5 × 10 = 50 Astronomy I
Total: 120 Astronomy I
So the challenges needed to produce 10 Uolon Horn Tokens also provide 120 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I, assuming you claim those rewards and do not spend the currency first.
Since the Uolon Horn requires only 100 Astronomy I, the complete token path naturally gives enough of the standard currency as well.
That makes one strategy particularly efficient:
Prioritize Uolon Horn Tokens first. Save the Astronomy I earned from those challenges.
You can then use repeatable Treasure Trove farming mainly for additional event rewards rather than unnecessarily farming 100 tomestones before dealing with the token requirement.
Yes, but there is an important distinction between obtaining it during the First Hunt and continuing progress into the Second Hunt for Astronomy.
Square Enix specifically confirms that:
the Uolon Horn will also be available during the Second Hunt;
Uolon Horn Tokens will continue to be relevant;
tokens obtained during the First Hunt can be carried over and redeemed during the Second Hunt.
That means missing one or more First Hunt Minimog rewards does not erase your progress.
As of September 22, 2026, a player starting the First Hunt with zero tokens has already missed the first two Minimog reward opportunities. Based on the confirmed one-token-per-Minimog rule and the remaining First Hunt challenge opportunities, such a player can reach up to 9 tokens during the First Hunt: five from Ultimog plus four remaining Minimog tokens. That means a brand-new starter from zero at this point would need the Second Hunt to finish the 10-token requirement. This is an inference from the event structure and current date rather than a separate Square Enix statement.
Do not discard or ignore partial progress. Even five, six, seven, eight, or nine tokens remain useful because Square Enix has confirmed the carryover.
The single biggest step toward the mount is the First Hunt's Ultimog Challenge:
Complete Aloalo Island six times.
Once all six qualifying completions are registered, the Mogpendium reward is:
70 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I
5 Uolon Horn Tokens
The reward must then be manually claimed through the Mogpendium.
Getting five tokens in one challenge instantly covers half of the mount requirement.
Aloalo Island is a level 90 Variant Dungeon originally introduced in Patch 6.51.
To unlock it, you need access to the quest Stranger from Paradise in Old Sharlayan. Square Enix's Patch 6.51 notes list the quest at Old Sharlayan X:12.0, Y:13.3 and require a level 90 Disciple of War or Magic, along with the necessary MSQ progression and prior interaction with Osmon.
Make sure you are entering the normal Variant Dungeon called Aloalo Island—not Another Aloalo Island or its Savage version.
The First Hunt Ultimog specifically asks for Aloalo Island.
Normal Aloalo:
is a Variant Dungeon;
is level 90;
supports 1–4 players;
adjusts to different party sizes;
has no traditional tank/healer/DPS party requirement;
uses the V&C Dungeon Finder;
allows Variant Actions to compensate for missing party roles.
This is good news for anyone worried that six clears require forming a full static party.
They do not.

Variant Dungeons are intentionally designed to support groups ranging from one to four players, with enemy strength adapting to party size. Square Enix's original Aloalo documentation explains that you may register solo, enter with a premade group, or enable matchmaking; there are also no normal role restrictions for the Variant version.
Player reports from the current 2026 event also confirm that solo Aloalo clears count toward the six required Ultimog completions. Some players have completed all six alone, although actual completion time naturally changes with job, gear, route, and player experience.
So you have several practical options:
Run solo
This gives you full control over the route and removes matchmaking or Party Finder dependence. Variant Actions help compensate for whatever your job lacks.
Enter with friends
A familiar group may make repeated clears more comfortable, especially if everyone understands the encounters.
Use matchmaking
Variant matchmaking is available if you prefer playing with others without organizing your own party.
There is no requirement to complete the Ultimog with four players.
You are not required to unlock six different conservation records.
You simply need six completed Aloalo Island runs for the Ultimog objective.
That distinction saves a lot of unnecessary complication.
Do not turn the Ultimog farm into a 12-route completion project unless you actually want Aloalo's normal exploration rewards.
Aloalo Island has branching paths and 12 possible conservation records. Different actions can alter bosses or unlock different endings, and collecting all 12 records has its own separate reward structure.
For Uolon Horn progress, however, you only need clears.
You can therefore choose a route you understand and repeat it.
One commonly recommended straightforward option is the left path while avoiding the additional Zozone interaction that leads into more involved route conditions. Current Aloalo route documentation describes the simpler left-side progression and distinguishes it from the more elaborate route requirements.
The important principle is not that one path is guaranteed to be mathematically fastest for every job. It is that you do not need to solve every secret route simply to earn the Ultimog tokens.
Variant Actions exist specifically to help flexible party compositions function.
If you enter solo, select actions that compensate for your job's weaknesses. A DPS may benefit from extra survivability or healing, while other jobs can use offensive utility where appropriate.
Variant Dungeon documentation confirms that players can equip two Variant Actions and that their availability varies by role.
Ignoring these tools can make solo runs unnecessarily slow or uncomfortable.
Six consecutive clears are not the ideal place to learn an unfamiliar job from scratch.
Use something with:
reliable damage;
comfortable movement;
good survivability;
a rotation you can perform without constantly watching your hotbars.
The difference between a theoretically strong job and a job you actually play well can easily matter more than small optimization gains.
Another Aloalo Island is substantially harder content and is not what the Ultimog objective requests.
Criterion uses fixed four-player mechanics and much higher encounter difficulty. The normal Variant version is specifically designed for flexible party sizes and exploration.
Double-check the V&C Dungeon Finder before starting.
After the Ultimog gives you five tokens, Minimog becomes the second half of the Uolon Horn requirement.
Each Minimog reward gives:
10 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I
1 Uolon Horn Token
The Mogpendium presents two different Minimog objectives, but you only have to complete one.
This is one of the most important Uolon Horn tips.
Completing both available Minimog objectives does not produce two tokens.
Once you complete one eligible objective and claim the reward, that Minimog reward has been used.
Therefore, if your only objective is the Uolon Horn:
Open the Mogpendium.
Read both Minimog objectives.
Pick whichever is faster or easier for your character.
Complete that one.
Claim your reward.
Ignore the alternative unless you want to do it for another reason.
That prevents wasted effort.
At the time of writing on September 22, 2026, the active Minimog pair is:
complete 5 skirmishes in the Bozjan Southern Front; or
play 1 Doman Mahjong match against other players.
Completing either qualifies for the same 10 Astronomy I + 1 Uolon Horn Token reward. NPC Mahjong does not count.
If you already have the Bozjan Southern Front unlocked, five skirmishes are the more predictable combat-focused option.
Skirmishes function similarly to FATE-style encounters inside the field operation. Bozja itself is part of the Save the Queen storyline and ultimately requires the Return to Ivalice progression before accessing that content chain.
Try to participate in actively spawning skirmishes rather than waiting in one location.
You do not need a special high-end raid group just to participate in ordinary skirmishes.

Mahjong requires only one player match for the current Minimog objective, but the important word is player.
An NPC Mahjong game does not satisfy the challenge.
Doman Mahjong is unlocked in the Gold Saucer at level 15 after meeting its prerequisite requirements. Square Enix confirms that normal player matches can be entered through the Gold Saucer section of the Duty Finder, while NPC games are separate.
You also do not need to win for the current Minimog objective; the requirement is to play the match.
However, Mahjong match duration can vary substantially, so having only one required match does not automatically make it faster than five active Bozjan skirmishes.
Choose based on what you already have unlocked.
A surprisingly easy way to lose progress is completing a challenge but forgetting that its bonus reward is not handled like an ordinary Standard Objective.
Challenge completion alone is not the final step.
Standard Objective tomestones are automatically placed into your inventory.
By contrast, rewards from:
Weekly Objectives;
Minimog Challenges;
Ultimog Challenges
must be manually collected using Claim Rewards inside the Mogpendium.
So after completing your sixth Aloalo Island run, do not simply log out assuming five Uolon Horn Tokens have already appeared.
Open the Mogpendium.
Check the Ultimog Challenge.
Press Claim Rewards.
Do the same whenever you finish the qualifying Minimog objective.
Square Enix also warns that Mogpendium rewards will no longer be claimable after Patch 8.05, so completed but unclaimed rewards should not be left sitting indefinitely.
Uolon Horn Tokens are the restrictive part, but you still need 100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I.
Astronomy I comes from far more sources than Uolon Horn Tokens.
Qualifying Standard Objectives include:
selected dungeons;
raids;
trials;
PvP;
Gold Saucer GATEs;
Ocean Fishing.
The Standard Objectives can be repeated, while Mogpendium bonuses provide larger additional amounts.
However, do not unnecessarily farm the full 100 before doing your token challenges.
The full First Hunt token route gives:
70 from Ultimog + 50 from five Minimogs = 120 Astronomy I.
That already exceeds the 100 needed for the mount.
Therefore:
Do not spend those tomestones on other Treasure Trove items if the Uolon Horn is your priority.
A 50-tomestone cosmetic can look harmless, but spending twice at that price consumes the entire standard-currency portion of the mount.
Secure the mount requirement first. Shop with the remainder afterward.
Once you have:
100 Irregular Tomestones of Astronomy I
10 Uolon Horn Tokens
visit an Itinerant Moogle.
Current exchange locations include:
Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks — X:9.4, Y:11.6
New Gridania — X:12.4, Y:12.1
Ul'dah – Steps of Nald — X:9.6, Y:9.1
The Uolon Horn appears in the First Hunt exchange for the combined cost of both currencies.
Once exchanged and used, the horn unlocks the Uolon mount.
This is where the two-part structure becomes particularly important.
Aloalo Island requires substantial progression and is unavailable to Free Trial players because of its Endwalker-related requirements.
If you cannot complete the First Hunt Ultimog, that does not mean any Minimog tokens you collect are wasted.
Square Enix has explicitly confirmed that the Second Hunt for Astronomy will also feature the Uolon Horn and Uolon Horn Tokens, and First Hunt tokens remain usable there.
Therefore:
complete any Minimog objectives available to you;
claim every token you earn;
keep those tokens;
continue the requirement during the Second Hunt.
Do not interpret failing to reach 10 during the First Hunt as losing the mount permanently.
Standard Objectives give Astronomy I, not Uolon Horn Tokens.
You could farm dungeons all day and end with hundreds of tomestones while remaining at zero special tokens.
Use Standard Objective farming for the currency side of the purchase, not the token side.
You only receive one Minimog reward.
The two objectives are alternatives.
Do whichever option fits your character better and move on.
Completing Aloalo six times is not enough if you then ignore the Mogpendium claim.
Minimog and Ultimog rewards require manual collection.
The Ultimog asks for normal Aloalo Island, not Another Aloalo Island.
Variant and Criterion are different content types with dramatically different difficulty structures.
There is nothing wrong with collecting the 12 conservation records, but it is a separate objective.

And if you cannot finish all 10 during the First Hunt, keep what you have—Square Enix has confirmed that Uolon Horn Tokens carry into the Second Hunt for Astronomy, where the mount will remain available.
