How Extraction Works in Active Matter
The basic raid loop sounds simple:
Enter → complete objectives → loot → extract.
In practice, each stage changes the value of the next one.
At the beginning of a raid, you may be risking only your own equipment.
Five minutes later, you might be carrying:
an Investigation item;
a valuable weapon;
rare crafting resources;
Active Matter;
valuable enemy equipment;
a large quantity of ordinary loot;
or something that unlocks future replication options after successful extraction.
Suddenly, the correct way to play has changed.
Extraction turns loot into progression
The more valuable your inventory becomes, the less sense it makes to behave as if you still have nothing to lose.
This is where many players fail.
They find something excellent.
Then they use that success as justification to search one more building.
Then another.
Then they hear gunfire and decide to investigate.
Then they die.
Active Matter rewards aggressive play when aggression helps the objective. It punishes aggression that exists only because the player does not know when to stop.

Open Raids vs Isolated Raids

Do not assume the final part of the raid is automatically safer than the middle.
In an Open raid, your last few hundred meters can be some of the most important movement of the entire run.
Check Extraction Requirements Before You Start Looting
One of the simplest ways to lose a good raid is to wait until the end before checking what extraction actually requires.
Active Matter's September 10 interface update specifically changed the objective display so that mandatory and extraction-required objectives receive clear markers. The raid map also places early-extraction and extraction-requirement guidance directly beneath the objective list.
Use it.
Read the objective list immediately
When you spawn:
open the map;
identify mandatory objectives;

Loot Priorities – What Should You Take?
Active Matter contains many forms of value, and a beginner can easily waste inventory space because everything looks potentially important.
There is no perfect universal loot order.
Your priority should change depending on your current progression.
Still, several categories usually deserve special attention.
Objective and Investigation loot
Items connected to your current objective should usually receive the highest priority.
An ordinary-looking object can be worth more than expensive random loot if it completes a requirement that unlocks later progression.
The Gigastructure update added specific Collect and Extract objectives, and the current raid interface distinguishes extraction-related objectives so you can identify them more clearly.
If an item is the reason you entered, protect it accordingly.
Rare weapons and equipment

Valuable crafting items
The August 27 overhaul made extracted items more important to crafting progression.
Successfully extracting an item can unlock its associated fusion and replication recipes, while dismantled loot produces specialized chronotraces such as metal, composite, fiber, chemicals, energy, and idea. Valuable raid finds can produce especially large chronotrace yields.
This is a major reason not to judge items only by whether you want to equip them.
A weapon you do not plan to use may still matter because it can:

Some enemies have better loot behavior than ordinary targets.
