🟦 Region Order in PSO2 NGS (Simple Overview)

NGS currently progresses through four main regions on Halpha, and you unlock them in this exact order through Main Tasks:

  1. Aelio (starting region)
  2. Retem (desert region)
  3. Kvaris (snow region)
  4. Stia (volcanic/industrial region)

You can’t skip ahead or unlock them out of order — story progression is the key.

📜 How Region Unlocking Works (Main Tasks = Map Gates)

NGS is designed so that new areas and game systems unlock through the Main Story. The official story structure explains that searchable areas and features open as you clear Main Tasks and Story Quests.

So the rule is:

If you want a new region, follow your Main Tasks.

The game will show your current Main Task in the quest tracker with a yellow marker. When a region unlock is coming, the task name usually makes it obvious (“To Retem City,” “To Kvaris Region,” etc.).

🟩 Step 1 — Unlocking Retem (Desert Region)

What you need to do

To reach Retem, you must finish the Aelio story first. The official update notes state plainly that completing Chapter 1 of the story allows you to proceed to the Retem Region.

What happens when you unlock it

When you clear the chapter that leads into Retem, the game opens:

  • Retem Region map access
  • Retem exploration sectors
  • Retem combat sectors
  • Retem Ryuker fast travel network (as you discover devices)

If you’re blocked by BP before Retem

This is the first real BP wall for many players. If the Main Task says your BP is too low:

  • Enhance your current weapon and units a bit
  • Slot basic augments (even cheap ones help BP)
  • Run a combat sector for PSE Bursts to level and gather drops
  • Clear nearby cocoons for skill points (big BP boost)

You don’t need perfect gear — just “good enough” to pass the story gate.

🟨 Step 2 — Unlocking Kvaris (Snow Region)

What you need to do

Kvaris unlocks through the next major story jump. The Main Story campaign names this chapter “To Kvaris Region,” and clearing it opens Kvaris.

Even trophy/guide sources confirm Kvaris areas become available after completing the Chapter 3 Main Task “To Kvaris Region.”

What unlocks with Kvaris

Once Kvaris opens, you get:

  • Kvaris full region map
  • New exploration subsectors
  • New combat sectors and higher ranks
  • New cocoons/tower to collect skill points
  • Another region mag to feed (important for exploration)

Typical Kvaris BP wall

By this stage, BP walls feel bigger because enemy levels ramp up. If blocked:

  • Upgrade into a current weapon series (don’t over-invest in old gear)
  • Enhance units to unlock more slots
  • Run Retem combat sectors for XP + upgrade drops
  • Finish any Retem cocoons/tower you missed

This is the moment where a small gear refresh makes story progress smooth again.

🟥 Step 3 — Unlocking Stia (Volcanic / Industrial Region)

What you need to do

Stia is the final major region unlock in the current main-map progression. It’s tied to the Main Task chapter called “To Stia Region.” Clearing that chapter opens Stia.

What unlocks with Stia

Entering Stia opens:

  • Stia region map
  • High-rank exploration subsectors
  • Endgame combat sectors
  • New cocoons and tower for more skill points
  • Late-game story content and big boss arcs

Stia BP gates are real

Stia is where the game expects you to be properly geared. If BP blocks you here, the fix is basically:

  • Move into a modern high-rarity series
  • Get your main weapon potential leveled
  • Fill your augment slots cleanly
  • Enhance units to a solid baseline
  • Farm Kvaris/Retem sectors if you need materials

Stia is designed to feel like “endgame open world,” so the jump is supposed to be noticeable.

🌍 Unlocking Exploration Sub-Sectors Inside Each Region

Even after a region unlocks, you’ll notice parts of its map are still fogged or blocked. That’s normal.

You open exploration subsectors by:

  • Following the Main Tasks in that region
  • Reaching new Ryuker Devices
  • Sometimes clearing a story quest that introduces the area

Practical tip:

If a path looks locked, don’t grind randomly. Check your Main Task.
The story nearly always points you to the gate.

🗺️ Ryuker Devices — Your Real Map Progress

Ryuker Devices are the blue fast-travel towers. Each region has a network, and you unlock them simply by walking up to them.

They matter because:

  • They permanently open fast travel
  • They let you swap blocks for better farming rooms
  • They make daily routes faster
  • They help you explore efficiently

Exploration habit:

Whenever you enter a new sector, grab the Ryuker first.

Future you will thank you.

🏛️ Cocoons & Towers — Hidden Region Progress Boost

Cocoons and Towers (Trainia) are instanced challenges scattered through every region. Clearing them gives skill points, and skill points are one of the biggest sources of BP.

Each region has multiple cocoons/towers (Aelio has the most; later regions have fewer but still important).

Why this matters for unlocking regions:

  • If you skip cocoons/towers, your BP growth slows
  • BP walls hit harder
  • Story feels grindy for no reason

So whenever story says “BP too low,” check:

“Did I clear the cocoons in this region yet?”

Most of the time, that’s the missing power.

🧲 Region Mags — Little Progress Engines

Every region has its own Region Mag you can feed. As you feed it items, it gives buffs tied to that region. The beginner guides recommend using Region Mags for better farming and smoother exploration.

You don’t need to max mags to unlock the map, but feeding them helps you:

  • Kill faster in that region
  • Farm better drops
  • Pass BP checks sooner

It’s a “small boost that stacks over time.”

🔁 The Real Progress Loop (Story → BP Gate → Fix → Story)

Here’s the clean loop that unlocks everything fast:

  1. Do Main Tasks until you hit a BP wall
  2. Fix BP the fastest way possible
  • Enhance weapon/units a bit
  • Fill augment slots
  • Clear cocoons/towers
  • Farm a combat sector for XP + drops
  1. Go right back to Main Tasks

This is exactly how the game is meant to be played.

If you follow that loop, regions unlock naturally without feeling like a forced grind.

⚡ Returning Player Catch-Up Tips

If you’re coming back after a long break, the map unlock path is still the same, but here’s how to speed it up:

  • Only follow Main Tasks until you’re blocked
  • Use whatever catch-up gear the game hands you
  • Don’t waste Meseta on outdated series
  • Do cocoons/towers you skipped
  • Farm active combat sectors for fast XP

NGS has been adding more “story clear” rewards and gear support campaigns to help returning players reach Stia quickly, so the catch-up is smoother now than it used to be.

🚫 Common Mistakes That Delay Region Unlocks

❌ 1) Grinding levels instead of story

Regions don’t unlock from level alone. You need Main Task clears.

❌ 2) Ignoring cocoons/towers

Skipping skill points makes BP walls harder than they should be.

❌ 3) Over-enhancing old gear

You only need enough power to pass gates. Save big investment for modern gear tiers.

❌ 4) Running empty blocks

If you farm to raise BP, do it in active blocks so PSE bursts happen faster.

❌ 5) Not grabbing Ryukers

You lose tons of time if you don’t unlock fast travel while exploring.

Avoid these and map progression feels smooth.

🧭 Quick “Region Unlock Checklist”

Use this whenever you feel stuck:

  • ✅ Main Task tracked?
  • ✅ BP requirement shown — and close enough?
  • ✅ Weapon enhanced enough for your stage?
  • ✅ Units enhanced enough for slots?
  • ✅ Augment slots filled?
  • ✅ Cocoons/tower in current region cleared?
  • ✅ Farming in an active block?
  • ✅ Ryukers unlocked along your route?

If you can tick most of these, the next region is basically guaranteed.

🚀 Where BoostRoom Can Help (Optional)

Sometimes you just want to unlock the map fast, catch up, and start farming endgame content without spending days on BP walls. If that’s your vibe, BoostRoom can be a chill optional shortcut for:

  • Fast leveling runs
  • Gear progression help to pass BP gates
  • Efficient farming sessions so story unlocks feel instant

Totally optional — just there if you want to save time.

Conclusion

Unlocking every region in PSO2 NGS is simple once you know the rule: Main Story progression opens the map.

  • Retem unlocks after finishing Aelio Chapter 1.
  • Kvaris unlocks after clearing the chapter called “To Kvaris Region.”
  • Stia unlocks after clearing “To Stia Region.”
  • Inside each region, explore with Ryukers, clear cocoons/towers for skill points, and feed region mags to keep BP rising.

Follow the loop story → BP fix → story, and the entire world opens up naturally. No confusion, no wasted grind — just clean progression from Aelio all the way to Stia.
